Default Finally finished an EB campaign

Normally I find myself going in a completely different direction from the victory conditions, or submitting to the urge to start a new game once my empire in my current one becomes too powerful to be a challenge, but after several years of playing EB I finally finished a campaign.

Started by abandoning almost all of my settlements and driving my economy down the drain for the first decade or so (not far into debt but just around the 0 mark). Slowly reconquered Africa, had multiple nasty wars with the Ptolemies, and took Iberia after a long war with with the Lusitani. Rome was depressingly easy to defeat. I was hoping to face Marian legions rather than armies of Vigiles...

The campaign isn't quite done. The KH has formed a superpower and sinks any fleet I put out, no matter how powerful. Once I reestablish Carthage as the supreme naval power I'll be happy with the campaign.

V&V RIP Helmut Becker, Duke of Bavaria.

Nice one, playing Carthage myself at the moment. Any chance of seeing the map?

I've spent a decent amount of time waiting for Carthage's reforms, so I'd sent armies to interfere in the east in those decades between when I had finally reconquered Africa and when I finally started pushing to win (at which point I didn't have the cash for such meddling), so the situation in that region of the map isn't entirely natural. If I recall I raided Egypt a couple times in a futile attempt to keep them from sending full stacks my way by land across Africa, freaked out when it looked like the Seleucids were going to supplant them and started helping them, then helped the KH along a very little bit. At one point I think I also managed to get Saba to control almost everything in their region up to Jerusalem...

The KH has some disturbingly large navies. I can't afford to put anything together equal to them, despite doing fairly well in income again. I think I'll consider the campaign finished when I push them out of Greece.

    Haiku:

When the scream of dying and humiliated Romans reaches the sky
And when the walls of "eternal city" burns to the ashes...
Birds will sing, and skies will shine to your glory, o great Hannibal
And the gods will be happy, as like the dogs have never lived before...

I think that is a bit harsh. I say that as long as you didn't cheat, you deserve a congrats. The carthies are one of the few factions that I've managed to complete as well. Keep up the good work.

He abandoned most of his settlements, reconquered them, and then went out to conquer everyone else. Either you don't know what blitzing is or you're just trolling for shits and giggles.

Congratulations. I myself have never finished a campaign in EB so far.

Well done it's nice to finish a campaign.

Now play to AD14(From a smug bar steward who has)

Knight of heaven, I don't know why you have so many CTD's I found the mod to be incredibly stable to the end, I did have CTD's mostly from the RTW post battle problem but none that broke the campaign. I was running RTW.exe with Lz3's minimod pack, or it may be I've 3G of RAM.

Only in the EB forums would anyone consider a 364 turn win a "blitz".

I'd like to play a slower game but with RTW diplomacy in the state it's in I don't find it much fun. I found a pace I'm comfortable with and had a good time fulfilling a personal goal of mine (actually completing an EB game, as usually once I hit that point where I can't lose I start a new one). It is a game after all.

181BC and that? That is no blitzing... I usually have the world conquered then already...

    Well done Zim! Congrats.

Not that I find impressive. I tried to pull off a blitz in MTW2 once where it's much easier, and I just can't handle the level of management required to successfully blitz the map that fast. I'm too inefficient. If I'm waiting for structures to build I just keep hitting end turn while I read a book, only to find one of my settlements rebelled when I wasn't paying attention.

Well, it's not a real haiku. I use that term only because i write short "songs" like haiku.

Every time I get close there is some game ending bug. The most recent one destroyed 2 months of "work".
What time does not pervert, it destroys outright.
From this we may conclude that there are no eternal truths, no limitless passions.
    There are only subtle deceptions.
