In the few instances where you get Plague in EB the answer is "do it!".

Personally I find it pretty cheap. The AI is already clumsy enough as it is. It doesn't need to have its family members die off, its armies withered down and cities reduced to villages.

Why not spread around the joy ?
"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

I've done it once as the Makedones. A plague hit Taras I think, and I trained a bunch of spies to infiltrate every city that belonged to the Romaioi. Just be careful not to do that with a faction that shares borders with you, because a spy of theirs could just as easily spread the disease towards your own territory.

its a hard decision but as stated above i supose the challenge is welcomed and ill only be dissapointed if the plague has devious effects on my enemies therefore taking the challenge away.

Im gonna turn my spys back thx for the advaice guys :)

Edit: @ maion : how bad did the plague effect the romans?

Very. It was fun to watch the statistics of the Romaioi as a faction, everything went down with population being the steepest slope of course.

In my Getai campaign, the Qarthadastim wiped out the Romani and held the Italic Peninsula. Of course, they felt the need to attack my holdings at Segestica. On one particular infiltration, a spy discovered a case of the plague in Arpi, and so I spread it around to all the settlements in the north. Then I landed a large group of elites in the south and worked my way upwards. The diseased enemies were easily dealt with by my troops.

Interestingly enough, it seems as though the plague is much more lethal for its carriers (spies, family members) than in RTW vanilla.

And I'm surprised no one has used in this thread yet.

I find spreading the diseases with spies a bit cheap, poor AI.

It never spreads too much, trust me. Sooner or later, it dies out. Especially when the infected cities have good health improvement buildings.

Thats called Biological Warfare, and its fun. In my Romani campaign the middle east seems to be holy ground for plagues, and I used my infested spies to try to make cities loyal to the Ptolemies revolt, but without any success.

    Cheers.

I don't get how a plague lowers public order. All it does is reduce the population and troops (albeit by a small amount). In a way, by killing off citizens, it improves public order.

EDIT: The majority of the above is FALSE INFORMATION!!!!!

If there is enough chaos and death in a city, people will tend to start looting the shops and homes of those people, fighting over possessions, panic in general that they might be next, and attempts to leave the area that (You, as a competent commander) you have blocked. Ever notice that the plague doesn't really spread unless you move campaign characters?

Cool store, bro! I want some ham.
    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?

you know, only the KH would suffer from that, at least according to this source, and even then, only Athens is at serious risk*. If I want an effective weapon, I want one that will work on all factions, except Arabianz (and maybe Iranians-just feeling generous)

On topic: on the subject of reducing sttlements: has anyone noticed the garrison size in a besieged city drop at a certain rate, regardless of whether it was plagued or spied or not? r is it just me?

either way, I think this has implications on siege tactics, especially when one plans assault in some cases.
