Thread: Transferring saves from PSP to PS3.
johnhughthom 22:27 06-25-2009
As I was taking a trip that involved a few days travelling I borrowed my nephew's PSP and transferred the PSN Final Fantasy VII and my latest save onto it. Now I want to transfer the updated save from the PSP back to the PS3 to continue playing after I give him the PSP back, but I can't find a way to do so. Anybody know how to/if you can do this?

Depends on what model PS3 you have. If you have an older model like mine, which still has the memory card ports, then it should be:

PSP: connect it with the USB cable then go to settings, USB connection.
PS3: Games, memory card utility, then PSP.

That should open up a display similar to browsing a standard memory card. Just locate your save game, hit triangle and then select copy.

If you have a newer one then the process is different because the console doesn't have the memory card utility ... or something.

I must have a newer model as that doesn't work, thanks anyway.

I have a newer PS3, but it still has the memory card utility. You can create virtual memory cards for the PS1 and the PS2 (for some reason... it can't play PS2 games) on the PS3s hard drive. My PSP, once in USB mode, also shows up under same menu, but I can't really test it any further than that on my end- I don't have a PS1 game installed that I can try to copy.

Hmm, it recognises the PSP now, but the FF VII save doesn't show. Pretty annoying, replaying six hours or so of a Final Fantasy game is not high on my list of fun things to do.

Hmm. Mine's an original PAL model, and that makes it pretty different in some respects to both the original American model and to the more recent stripped down models.

I tried a quick google search and found a utube video showing the process.

I also turned up a detailed description on gamefaqs.

You do have your PS3 firmware updated? Connectivity with the PSP has had an awful lot of revisions.
