Just divide your army in two almost equal parts and do a blitzkrieg against nearby provincies/tribes and slowly as you advance and lose soldiers and gain provincies you'll start having some nice economy to start building your trade routes and so on.

Also go for the regions with mines, they'll prove very usefull from a point.

Try not to expand towards sarmatia they will slap you hard the germans are useless vs their supreme horse archers and armoured cav.

Also in my german campaign the romans came up fast so i found allying with the gallic tribes key. Romans were quickly subdued by the lustana as in most cases where they suddenly blitz the whole of western europe in like 20 years. Due to my early mistake of blitzing towards sarmatia, i had to keep 2 full stacks on the east because 1 full stack got pwned even when defending in forts, so i had little defence towards the western enemies.

I ended up taking a boat full of veterans down to the bottom of spain and counquering as much as i cud sacking everything for money, but the lustana soon caught me. I stopped that campaign but i supose it wud be fun to continue it :)
