It was a kinda tough day. Soldier-son broke down on the road from North Carolina to Alaska, and me no way to help, except supportive text messages. Grandson's baby-mamma broke up with her latest live-in boyfriend (who provided monthly money), so I inherited 4 children (7-12) and a weeping 30-year old female for the rest of this week and next.

Then MJ died. I saw what I thought were posts/threads that violated the backroom's "no bash 'til the funeral" rule and tried to bring about order. But failed.

In my frustration, amplified by real-life, I admit I got nasty and overly-critical. I regret that. And apologize for it.

No excuses, I messed up there. Sorry.

BTW Kukri , you was mild and in no real way out of order.
But it must be considered that by 7am our time (as usual Mill Street barracks were the first , I honestly think the police do nothing but make up jokes on the night shift)I had been sent more than 20 jokes on the subject sent to me plus I had two of my own that I sent on , all were distasteful, but all were funny.
Now in all honesty who is waiting for Gary Glitter to pop his clogs for some great one liners?

As for that marching, it's the most impressive that I know of and that's because it applies to all soldiers and to all soldiers' families, darlings and compatriots. And I'll bloody well post it for someone like KukriKhan if I want to.

Aw hell... another apology due. Well I guess this is the place for it. :) In my joy, I imagined that I'd updated everyone: young Sergeant Douglas arrived back in the US this past January, having served 25 months in Iraq (minus 1 week, which he used to visit us and marry his sweetie in Vegas).

Having done his Airborne Infantry duty well, the Army begged him to stay. He asked for entry to the Construction Engineer field, and they granted. So now he's been reassigned to Fort Richardson, Alaska (near Anchorage) where he'll build whatever the Army wants - or, alternatively, blow up whatever the Army wants - in Alaska, and (a bit later) in Afghanistan.

Hey on the wider thing if it wsn't for stressed out servicemen I wouldn't be able to smoke at Shannon.

Though honestly it is so ****** now that you can't tell the difference between to ones heading to war and the ones heading back, the cycle seems to have reached the point where every plane going either way has lots of people mentally and physicly ****** up.
Scary ****, its a hell of a price to pay for an airside smoking area.
Really, you didn't get this level of screwed upness in GW 1 or the yugoslav crap.
Now its like invasion of the zombies

Sure, and aren't we all, in the end? I/we don't know if the Paters, and Maria's and Glory Be's fix stuff in the long run (and the fixing doesn't matter much either) - but we (or at least I) hope that the telling of sins to our fellows, and owning up to our words and deeds, makes us better men. Men unafraid of humility, not scared of self-reveal, men secure enough in our manhood that saying (and meaning) "I'm Sorry" is just something we do as a matter of course.. On top of whackin' and hackin' our way through our lives?

On the drone-like warrior behavior: yeah, even Sgt Doug agrees. There is not a a way to brief the newbies, tell them what to expect, and how to handle it. In the morning, you break down doors looking for weapons. In the afternoon, you "enjoy" tea with a local Strongman; by 1700 you fire-fight your way back to the FOB, where you can expect chilli-mac at the civilian mess hall, and a cold shower (a good thing).
