    Default AI Watch Towers

A question out of curiosity., When the AI builds watchtowers is it hard coded in them to place them Strategically or just plain random?

    Thanks!

I don't think it is hard-coded since not every campaign is the same. Or do you mean when they stop in a certain location is it hard-coded that they build a watch tower?

I have no clue about the latter, but again I am assuming it is just random. Same with forts.

The AI does not just build them randomly, as usually it is strategic, but you know, just because the AI is programmed to act smart, it does not mean it actually does so. In my campaigns, the AI usually builds towers whenever my armies are nearby. After that the general builds the tower and usually waits there.

yeah they tend to build a watch tower where they intend to stand and fight i find. Though I'd prefer it if they'd build forts n what have yahs. alas, I can only hope for R2TW with multiplayer campaign maps

weeeeell i have no complains abt that...from what i've seen the AI tends to build watchtowers on hills, pockets of land that go deep into your territory etc... one thing i have thought is it would be nice to be able to scrap those watchtowers for some money once you've conquered a region ... get some mnai instead of a tower in a place where you don't actually need one
Ongoing Campaigns: Baktria, Casse, Koinon Hellenon, Pahlava.

Yeah I hate that, although it's nice sometimes when you can see the watchtower on the battlemap

I've never seen the AI build a fort myself, with rtw.exe or alx.exe. do they ever make them?

I wonder if this is linked with the changing of fort costs to 0 Mnai. I can't remember if they were ever built in vanilla, so it could be to do with something weird in the AI.

I once recalled the AI build a fort in Vanilla, well the Gauls did anyway.
