    Default Choices

After this summer is over I'm going to choose one of these two options, but since I am horribly indecisive I am going to leave it up to you guys.

Option A is go to Europe for two or three weeks touring the countries and what not.

Option B is building my dream computer with a grand cost of about 2800$

bah. with a grand computer you can tour them virtually. and have many more hours of joy with gaming and the like.
plus, with the economy, the trip will cost you a lot. at least that what i hear on all those financial talk shows.

EDIT: now that i read that this is a one in a lifetime chance, ill say to to Europe. if you only have the chance once, take it.

Go to Europe, if you're around the late school/early uni age like me, PC games will lose their charm.

I never thought I would say that, but these recent months I am just getting sick of PC games... I play some EU3 to fill the time but if you can you would be better going out and see the world.

Screw the computer. Get out see the world, live life in the real physical world.

The computer may keep you going longer but i haven't got many paticularly intresting storys to tell from my years spent playing computer games, the amount of story's i have just from a week in Spain is far better...

When i look back on life as an old man, shogun multiplayer may come to mind, Tibes mp may come to mind... some fine sqauds i built on Football Manager may spring up (actually that last one seems even sadder than the first two, i hope not) but my memory of a week in spain will be what i remember with a smile on my face...

USA is a big country with many varied environments, surely you haven't explored the whole country yet? Why do people always feel the need to leave their country on a holiday? If all goes to plan, in about a year I plan to have some cash saved up and travel around Australia for as long as it lasts me.

True. But, I guess with Europe there are a lot of different cultures squashed into a tiny space, thus easy to see a lot in a little amount of time.

I driven across America twice, well went along for the ride. I've seen a large portion of it. By late august I will have 3-3.5k to spend on a vacation. Would that be enough?

This. Technology can get outdated and replaced, a trip to Europe might be once in a life-time. Those memories will never get old.

Pretty much my thoughts. Computers are one of those things that become a lot more accessible as you get older and earn more, whereas traveling is much easier to do when you are young.

Pretty conclusive results. Go to Europe, it's a much better use of money and you'll regret not going if you never get another chance.

Definitely computer. Despite travelling to more than 40 countries of this world, I never saw that much use for it. Especially the landmarks. I mean, for me, seeing a photo of it is no different from seeing it in RL. A dream computer, now, is definitely worth it . It will keep on giving back (until it becomes completely obsolete in 4-5 years - without upgrades). Europe is great "cultural experience" but I see little tangible use in that trip.

however, have you ever been outside US, Veho Nex? Because I am simply sick of some Americans who have never been outside of US and act is if US is the only... You know what I am speaking of... Such as the hypothesis of American exceptionalism... Their cultural ignorance, ignorance of the fact that other ways of doing things exist is exasperating. No sport in living with those people.

I've been to Mexico... for maybe 50 seconds. Long enough to go over and come back cause we took a wrong turn. Believe me this trip would be all about learning. I think I would spend most of the time with distant relations in Ireland, Scotland, and Sweeden/Norway. But my big goal in the trip is to goto Germany and france for historic sights. Also visiting omaha beach would own

Ok so it looks like Europe has such a commanding lead. Now I guess it's time to start planning this thing out. Any recommendations for where I should visit?

all i will say is that when you go to Italy, dont just visit Rome. there are tons of great roman ruins in other places then rome, perhaps even better.
also, southern france has a load of them too.

Haven't read the replies, just the original post. If you plan it well and you usually enjoy trips, such a trip might mean a lot to you and be worth the money. However, if you use your computer a lot and your happiness will benefit a lot from pumping the money into that, go for it. ;)

Well thing for computers is, I sell them when I upgrade. I also use my computer as though it were my lover, a lot of my life and time is spent on these damn machines. *I really really need a girl friend.*

    To the Eurotrip:

The general outline for my trip around Europe would be to visit distant McCarthy relatives in Ireland, then to Scotland for more relatives. The next place would be lower Britain, then I would go across into france. France to Germany, Germany to East Europe-ish areas, Then south to greece then west towards italy and stuff. I would head back to USA after all that. But heck that is a general outline, and I'm not sure if I could make that trip with only 3k.

I see not why you have to spend that money. What happened to the "Save money" or "Invest it" options?

Whenever I get any money, I first put them in my savings account, and then decide. Preferably in my Russian savings account, as Russia is notorious for its high interest rates. I get 13% interest on my dough. Who needs the stock market when you get double-digit returns from simply putting money in banks? The downside, of course, are that loans, which are a pain in the behind in Russia. 14-16% on those. Not really how it should be, but whatever. Whatever god gives you, as they say, use it.

Definitely go to Europe - I wish I had spent more time on traveling back during my university days.

Believe me, you are likely to cherish the memories of such a trip for the rest of your life. Of course you can also argue that such a trip could be done later, but
    a) you can make other trips later but they will be different
    b) that argument might be wrong - so take the opportunity if it comes to you

When I was 16 I made (as an exchange student) a low budget trip with Greyhound along the West Coast of the US - unforgettable

You might want to revise your itinerary though - you put down a pretty ambitious list of countries for 2-3 weeks. I would recommend to focus on less countries and to thoroughly enjoy them.
