    Well, i just had a quick look, never really thought about it, but Personalausweis comes from Personalie and not Personal, obviously both words come from person which makes sense considering persons are involved.

    apparently we will also only get electronic cards anymore from 2010 with some personal info on an RFID chip, time to stock up on tinfoil it seems.
