Thread: Best settlements for regional units?

Default Best settlements for regional units?

Just wondering what everyone's favorite settlements for recruiting regionals are. My personal favorites are probably Tylis (fantastic selection of Gallic and the awesome Thracian troops) and Ankyra (all the Galatians you could want, and very important if you're playing as Pontos). Gades and Arse have provided steady streams of Iberian troops in my Carthaginian campaign, too.

I can't remember every city's name, but the ones in Thrace are essential to have (Scordisci Elites, Thracian Elite) also Northern Ireland is useful, as you get both the Goidilic and Caledonian regional rosters (druids at level 5). If you are a Greek faction, then Pella, Alexandria and Antioch are exceptional. Ankara has regional troops that are only available to some factions. I personally like Massalia for the Greek/Celtic roster, Chersonneos for its mix of barbarians and greek units (Horse Archers and archers are nice), and the northernmost city in India, where you can get awesome regional troops. Axum in Ethiopia is also useful. Taras and Syracuse are worth a mention. Taras especially gets you the roster of Italian troops (Samnites). I sometimes get Crete just for the Archers if I am in the West, and Thessaly for the cavalry as well. There is also a province in central Europe that has a ridiculous unit roster - tons of impressive celtic and german troops, but I don't think that I've conquered it myself, only been impressed by the recruitment viewer.

    Kydonia, Toxotai Kretakoi FTW!!!

The Baltic where you can recruit Medininkas which are almost as good.

Seleukeia and Antiocheia gives me one of the best greek local units like Syrian Archers who must be the best foot archer unit after cretans.

in my Sweboz game, i really love that town with the lugian swordsmen. place that temple that gives ton of moral and experience bonus with a lvl 4 gouverment and get 4 chevrons two handed swordsmen of death. also,, all the provinces around that place have a nice selection of celtic units (four chevrons celtic slingers? well, thank you).

And if you push eastward still and reach the black sea's shore. you'll get bosphorian archers and scythian horse archers. 4 chevrons horse archers

Kallatis, Chersonesos, Tylis, Singidunum, Antiocheia, Aventicos, Pergamon, and Emporion are among my favourites throughout my EB campaigns. Note I had no "barbarian" or nomad experience yet.

Taksashila is fantastic in terms of regionals, especially if you play Saka or Baktria. You can get Elephants, Taxilan Agema, Longbowmen, Guild Warriors, Kambojas and even some basic Hellenic and Persian units there.

Btw., Antiocheia is probably the best settlement for regionals, together with Tylis, Kallatis, and Chersonesos. It is the only province where you can recruit both Toxotai Kretikoi and Toxotai Syriakoi. Plus a lot of other very useful troops.

By the time you conquer India, your empire's borders will be too long to even use the troops...

Cool store, bro! I want some ham.
    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?
