Thread: Movie cam with EB 1.2
Flavius_Belisarius 11:01 06-25-2009
Hey guys,

Is it possible to use the movie cam on EB ? I dont know where to add the -movie_cam in the path of the SP or MP exe because of the trivial script there is a very confusing one. And when i dont install the trivial script i cant start EB, then it always starts the normal Rtw.

I found a solution. You simply have to add -mod:eb -movie_cam in the path of the normal Rtw exe.

Do you mean I would have to create a new shortcut that links to RTW executable with the movie cam suffix? or do you mean I'd have to edit the SP or MP links that already came with EB (Trivial Script)?

Yeah creat a new shortcut for the normal Rtw exe and then add -mod:eb -movie_cam. Always one space before a -.

Got it to work, now if I could only get a video capture program to work. Fraps cuts the frame rate too much, as do most other programs. IDK what to do!

Fraps is quite the only capture software which isnt that expensive and you get good qualitiy. I use it too but you need a high end computer if you wanna make vids with Eb and fraps.

I've tried Fraps. When I start recording, everything lags. My video is integrated, but do you suppose getting an actual video card will make it smoother during recording? (I ask cause I thought it all depended on the CPU, not whether video was integrated or not.)

I think you need around 70FPS without Fraps recording to get 30FPS recorded footage. So around 55/60 without Fraps should record some high quality footage. However, about 25/30 FPS without Fraps will get you watch-able quality recorded videos. RAM is the main deciding factor in this, though a decent graphics card will greatly improve your video quality.

4GB of RAM enough?

EDIT: I've uploaded a test. Find it here.

I think this lags are ok, the video is still worth to watch if the lags arent bader than in this.

I find the video to be just fine in terms of lag. You may want to do a test of a large battle, though, as battles often are the source of bad lag.

Here is test #2 and I have removed lag and added the grass textures and so on. The video is not too clear because I did not want a huge video file to upload as it is only a test.

EDIT: Does anyone think H.264 is better than Xvid or vice versa?

Test #3

Here is the third test. I've used x264 codec and I hope the HD version to work well. Thanks for opinions in advance.

That was really awesome actually. The shot of the triarii charging in, while not accurate in any way , was just incredible looking. And the officer duel was really cool too. I like seeing something of a different view that we really don't ever get while playing the game itself.

Thanks. I was hoping to get this thing to work finally--not only the moviecam but also the editing and compressing. I don't have bandwidth for viewing the HD version so I can't actually tell how it looks on Youtube, that's why I posted it.
