Thread: Quiet Skype?

    Default Quiet Skype?

Hello, long time no posyt and all that.
Anyway, I have recently started using skype a lot, and for some reason, my mic is really quiet on it. It reclords crystal clear in audacity, and I can make calls with Windows live messanger just fine,m just with skype, the mic actually needs to be IN MY MOUTH tro work, and then it still sounds like I'm sat accross the room. As I said, it's not windows, or the mic itself, because in Audacity, the recording is perfect.
I am using WinVis Premium 64, and the mic is a Sennheiser PC161. I am using Realtek High Def Audio codecs, and Skype is all set up torecieve the mic, but the volume keeps jumping around. Even on full it seemingly has no effect.

    Thanks in advance,

    CHE

I'm not sure about the differences in certain programs but I set some microphone uhm thing in the Realtek audio manager, go to the microphone tab, there should be two buttons where you can mute and the above has a symbol to the right that lets you add some decibels to the microphone, that fixed it for me.
Could mess up your current Audacity settings but maybe reducing the input volume in audacity fixes it or so, I've only tried with skype myself.

Have you looked at the mic volume setting within Skype? Tools->Options->Audio settings.

Yes, and it is as high as it can go. When I put the microphone almost in my mouth and shout, the other person can hear it, but only, as I said as if i was accross the room, and can be almost unentirely understood.

Ok, look, my menus are in german so it's a bit hard to explain but I made a picture for you that might help, click the button with the red ring around it and the menu you can see with the slider should come up:

Still not working. I call the Echo test eservice, say someything, and All I get back is a helluva lot of static, which contrasts a lot with the almost crystal-clear audacity recording.

Hmm, guess I'm out of ideas, sounds like a skype-specific problem then.
    Maybe try reinstalling it?
