Yes, and it is as high as it can go. When I put the microphone almost in my mouth and shout, the other person can hear it, but only, as I said as if i was accross the room, and can be almost unentirely understood.

Ok, look, my menus are in german so it's a bit hard to explain but I made a picture for you that might help, click the button with the red ring around it and the menu you can see with the slider should come up:

Still not working. I call the Echo test eservice, say someything, and All I get back is a helluva lot of static, which contrasts a lot with the almost crystal-clear audacity recording.
Hmm, guess I'm out of ideas, sounds like a skype-specific problem then.
Maybe try reinstalling it?
