Raoul scratches his head on learning he has sworn an inadequate oath.
I ask you to forgive a simple but honest man, my Duc, for thinking an oath of true sincerity is better than one of formula.
I, Roaul, Sieur de Châtillon, swear this oath to lord's name: When you call me to war under your banner I shall answer with all the forces I command, and I shall always do so, fighting under your banner with loyalty and courage. This I swear before the Lord, and may his vengeance strike me like a sword if I fail it.

No forgiveness necessary, Sir Raoul. You are right about sincerity being better than formula, but having both is better still.
I, Raymon de Provence, accept the oath of Raoul de Chatillon and I swear this oath in return: Your life and property, including your titles and land are now under my personal protection. Should they come under threat I shall marshall all the resources at my disposal to see that they are not lost. This I swear before the Lord.
