How to promote your website

I was wondering what are the cheap and very efficient methods of promoting someone's website. I'm trying to promote the family business by placing adverts on blogs and miscellaneous websites, but I want to promote the website even more so the traffic flow will be much better than it is today (an average of 15 visits a day ).

Alright, well if little people are out of the question, here's my advice:

Content. Is it a sales site? A corporate site? What is the nature? Give us some info and maybe we can give you some ideas.

Corporate site, it's the website of a company that's promoting its product and it also includes information and a page for online ordering of goods.

pay google a sum and theyll keep it at first page. otherwise, you will have to rely on traffic.
google rates sites by the number of revisits and how long people stay on the site.
for example, my stuttering therapist, who is self-employed and doesnt have a fancy site and everything and doesnt pay google to put his site as #1, yet if you search for "stutterig therapist atlanta" he comes up as #1. why? because people revisit and stay longer on his site.

SEO is about gaming the "page ranking" algorithm a search engine uses to rate your site against a given set of keywords. That is if you search for "puppy" the page ranking algorithm tries to ensure that sites "about" puppies end up higher (closer to the #1 spot) than sites "about" kittens. This is fairly complex heuristics, so your chances of doing much to influence your page rank are very slim unless you (a) cough up money so they make it a sponsored link; or (b) have a site with a very large volume (of traffic). Option (a) is equivalent to plain old advertising; and I don't know about others but for me I always ignore the sponsored links since they are hardly ever about what I am looking for anyways.

Sounds good, but I don't want to pay for something which won't bring good traffic and implicitly more sales towards the company. The traffic rankings indicate around 15 new visitors each day, and that's clearly not enough.

Any other options?
