Default while we wait for ETW to be completed

East India Company goes gold. Release date scheduled for end of July in the US...

Read the blog on naval warfare: interesting details there.

Total War really is the only one in its genre.

Regardless, this topic doesn't belong here.

thats a bit harsh. i'd be willing to bet that a large number of people haven't had any bugs that are too serious with ETW. they just dont post here.

i myself haven't had anything outside of the trade spot ships glitch. and a puckle gun glith, where if you put them into the artillery-wall-thing, then take it off and try to move them elsewhere, they are all screwed up.

The big issues aren't so much bugs now. Just the AI and diplomacy need a lot of work. Both RTW and M2TW had pretty much the same problem but CA never made them better. The AI is so suicidal it's not believable. There is no survival instinct. It just declares war on everyone and attempts to throw small armies at all its bordering nations. This time CA has said they are trying to do better, with 1.4 being the first patch to touch the AI. Hopefully, AIs will be more realistic.

Well, the shoe fits, & CA needs to wear it! What good was it to play a game where every single instance of utilizing Ship/Fleet, resulted in immediate CTD? ??! !!! Regardless of numerous reboots, re-installs, others providing help for code/scripting re-write, the minute You clicked on a Ship/Fleet, CTD! !!! Every damned time! !!! My systems can handle/support any game out there, certainly wasnt a software issue either! !!!

Plain & simple: CA did not thoroughly test their game, to work out every single Bug/Glitch. Never had the opportunity to use Navies in ETW, got tired with it & threw it away. 40 Euro mistake.

Damned shame, Shogun TW was excellent, no problems, same with Rome TW, MTW, M2TW; ALL wonderful problem-free games that I have enjoyed. ETW fell disappointingly short! !!!

So if East India Company works, I'll give it a try!

you know, just because it happens to not work right on your computer does not mean the did not thoroughly test it. they cannot possibly take the time to test every single computer configuration possible before release. it would be pushed back at least anothe year.

Sturmwolf, your rant is old and outdated, by now these problems have been largely removed and while they shouldn't have been there from the start, finding all bugs in a certain piece of software is almost impossible. That the other Total War games were flawless from the start is also quite wrong.

As it has been stated, this was a good release. I was around (only just mind you) for the release of M2:TW and I thought it was going to be the same. Check pages and pages back in the very start of the E:TW forum here, hardly anyone (read: me and one or two other people) turned up to defend E:TW after the 'horror' of M2:TW.

    However, Husar.

Have you done any coding Sturmwolf? I haven't done a whole lot, but I did spend 3 months making a little crappy game with a friend, who is a member here, Sarathos. It was constant programming, bug checking and so forth, yet it was completly full of bugs when we released it. I just couldnt find out what was causing them. And my game was just a little point and click.

Fixing a bug often causes other ones to arise, and then you get stuck in a loop, all the while the community is in an outrage because you havent patched the game for so long, so you release the current one, then the community is in an outrage because you didnt balance test, bugtest and give them free stuff. So you get back to testing and they complain you arent doing anything to fix it, that you're taking too long and that you have lost them as a buyer.

Trust me, I got quite good at that on the DotA forums.

I lost my train of though, L.E.N. is insulting me in broken english ("THE GOVERNMENT WITH YOUR FACE"...what?) and its dinner time.

On the other hand, it's arguably focusing exactly on some things that ETW is "kinda crappy" at: Intercontinental trade, economic competiton and of course: Naval warfare.

ETW has a stab at factoring them into the overall game experience, and one has to recognise that there's a lot it tries to include -which would give anyone a headache trying to reconcile with the realities of getting a product to market.

EIC clearly has a much reduced scope to ETW so their team will be better able to concentrate on making it complete.

I for one will be very interested to see how EIC models piracy, trade and naval combat in game terms.

    how very true.
id say that most people who just rant about the game about how awful it is (even though its not) need to calm down and look at the facts and overall experiences with other players. nor do they realize that very few games nowadays are bug free due to complexity. only the really simple ones can be guaranteed bug-free, like tetris or pac-man.
i for one never had a sinlge CA-related crash. i feel blessed. the only crash ive had were crashes relating to incompatible mods ive tried out.

Hehe, you must have stolen one of the systems CA developed the game on ;)

To be honest, I have had very few crashes with ETW, way less than with MTW-2 as it came out originally, but still I have had a few (including the fleet crashes, battle crashes, AI turn crashes). Most of those have been fixed by now (for my system at least).

As Slaists says, your system must be quite something -or have gold plate generic support!

You could probably have sold it for quite a price on this forum a couple of months ago...

Well, the original bugs would have shown up even within a week. Your system still must be really good, bro!

not especially. i only played 4-5 turns of a prussian campaign and the rest were MP battles and trying out all the units.

I have been following East India Company for a long time. Months before ETW came out in fact, and it looks interesting.

But the topic does belong in the Arena so I am moving it and will leave a tag in parliament for a couple of weeks.

not necessarily. i too have only had a couple non-mod related CTD's, and none if you don't count the trade spot glitch.

And this computer is 5 years old. admittedly the graphics card is awesome though.

Actually, even Pac-Man apparently has an unfixable bug on the 256th level where the screen gets screwed up and the level is impassible: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pac-man#Split-screen Bugs happen; nothing that anybody can do about it.

Actually, I've never had a CA related crash either... maybe Jews don't get buggy CA games.

Why do the words "Train wreck" come to mind as I view this thread?

This is not the forum to discuss ETW. Even if it were, this thread is about an entirely different game, a game now completely buried by ETW related posts. I'm closing it; it's beyond rescue.

I have started a new thread to replace this one.
Frogbeastegg's Guide to Total War: Shogun II. Please note that the guide is not up-to-date for the latest patch.
