Your setup really doesn't make much sense. I assume your dad is paying for a dialup service, while having broadband also?
Tell him it will save him money in the long run if you buy a router. I'm not seeing the logic here.

They have a broadband connection and the modem for this connection is connected to the desktop pc. Our boy hooah wants to get a wireless router connected to this modem so he can access it from his laptop.

Speaking from experience, it will probably be simpler to get a combo modem/wireless router in one box, as having the modem go to the router then to your computer can quite often cause problems. Though it will be more expensive than just a wireless router.

I understand that some parents can be awfully strict in their backwardness when it comes to "technology" and their lack of understanding.
Try convincing a "conservative businessman" like my father, that switching from DOS to Win98 would be a sound investment. He fought me for over a year, even though he absolutely refused to accept that I was right. Although, eventually he did make the switch, and thanked me for the sound advice. After that, he never questioned me when it came to matters of technology.
Sometimes you just need the right circumstances.
I too, have been a few situations like the one above. Getting a custom computer, was ignored, it turned out bad. I've been at my parents to get a decent internet connection for about a year now, and once I pinpointed the cause of the no, (them wanting to keep their old email) one guy I work with gave me a solution, and it may just work yet.
Try Hooah, I'm rooting for you![]()
