    Default Fan ruining Fun

    Hello people.

Its one of those times that I have to bother once more to ask for your glorious help. But this is annoying me. It is the micro fan. No matter how many times I move the CPU, clean it or curse at it, it will make that sound, which is annoying for the rest of the family at high hours.

Thing is, I do not know what causes it. I've checked BIOS, configurations of Windows, I've checked the box, some missing thing and nothing. Its running at 3333 RPM, sometimes at 3259 RPM. Which is normal.

I'm not sure what can I do, but that I wantt o get rid of the sound, I want to.

    Help!

What exactly is the problem you're trying to fix Caius? Loud fan? If the fan is loud or rattling odds are you're going to have to get a new one, they don't last forever and cleaning them out periodically will only prolong the inevitable.

If it's making the telltale buzzing/droning noise that old dirty fans make, the best solution is to replace the fan....

However, when that's not an option, I've gotten significantly more life out of old fans by liberally apply lubricant to them. To do any good you have to get it right onto the bushing, which is usually accessible by peeling back the sticker on top of the fan, exposing a hole over the bushing. Drip some oil in there, spin the fan manually to work it in, and apply more if need be. (I use this for lube) Finally, attempt to replace the sticker and power the computer back on.

In my experience, this lets a fan operate quietly for at least a few more months. Usually this is a pretty simple procedure, but some people may not be comfortable doing it, and the usual disclaimers apply (attempt at your own risk, ect.).

You don't have to replace it, just get a compatible fan.

Caius, do you know what make and model your cpu heatsink/fan are? If you can, post a good pic of it.
