Default need help: Grand Ages: Rome is completely screwed up

i just bought this game today, and it is currently unplayable. about evry couple seconds, the game freezes, and any sounds playing loop continually for about 20-40 seconds, until the freeze stops. then i try to play, then it freezes up again after 5 or so seconds. sometimes immediately.

i don't understand why it keeps doing this. i'm fairly sure it is something with my computer, but i am not sure. my rig can handle ETW at medium settings (with ultra unit size), as well as Oblivion, which, despite being a game from 2007, is very graphically demanding.

does anyone have this game? do you have this glitch? do you know how to fix it?

The reason I ask is because, since it is a new PC game bought from walmart, I'm not sure if I can return it. I might be able to tell them that the game is broken and get my money back, but i would really prefer to play it. it looks like a great game.

Generally when I get issues like that it has been due to incompatible hardware, have you checked the support section of the game/developer/publisher website to see? I recently had an issue almost identical to yours with Drakensang and it was due to an incompatible modem. That's the joy of PC gaming, pretty much any part of the gaming rig you lovingly put together can be the villain of the peice when a game doesn't work.

i checked the system requirements, and i far exceed them. found another game with similar requirements, tried it, and it ran just fine.

I played it last year and it was fine. I had everything on full and didn't have so much as a hiccough in the frame rate. It is a really good game - if you like city builders at all then you should enjoy it.

I do remember it being a bit sensitive about video drivers. IIRC you needed to use very current nvidea drivers; older ones led to instability and glitches. I'm not sure how ATI cards were affected. If you haven't already, update your drivers and see what happens.

I shall move this over to the hard and software forum. Our tech gurus live there and if they can't find a solution no one on this site will.
