Default What does Command stars and other skills actually do?

    Hey

I have searched the Internet and looked in many faqs to find the answer of what the generel skills actually do - in terms of game mechanics. But havent really gotten a clear and straight answear

I know that Commandstars improve the units under a generels command.

But what does it acutally do? Is it + 1 morale for every unit or what for each star or something else?

And If some one could do a scale of what 1, 2, 3, 4 etc command star does it would be great.

Same question for management and influence?

    Cheers

First of all, for such things I urge you to go to the Ludus Magna, where all of the RTW mechanics are uncovered and exposed through meticulous research and quite often through mathematics as well. Here is the thread on command stars and their effect, with contribution from a CA programmer (!). So no need for me to repeat what it says; just go and see for yourself. Remarkable forum it is; the most useful one on .Org, much more useful than the guides.

As for influence, it gives a happiness boost, 5% per wreath I believe. Each management scroll gives a set income bonus. That is about all I believe. Some say influence adds to the bodyguard, but that is most likely not true, as being a FL or FH along with PersonalSecurity traits has the largest impact, followed by a small boost from your age (older you are; the more men you have). Influence seems to have no effect. In my campaigns I have countless 10-influence generals with 6-14 men in the bodyguard (Large Unit Size). All due to the many negative personal security traits.

    Hey

    Thanks for the response.

The links you gave was very informative. But have a question.

JeromeGrasdyke mentions in the thread - a command radius which is influenced by the number of command stars.
So the morale bonus a general has of certain traits works only if the units are near the general?

    Quote from JeromeGrasdyke:
    "The general's command also controls his radius-of-effect, which is set to 30 m + 5 m * command + 2 m * influence".

Can somebody give me an idea of how long 30 meters are ingame?

    Cheers

No the morale boni from traits applies to the whole army all the time and is not linked to command stars, its the main reason you don't see much command stars in EB.

Command Stars are a very useful proposition, indeed that's why I always train up my Generals with brigands and the like before sending them to critical fights. A 10 Command General can "lift the spirits" of a whole army at an impressive distance, which effectively means he can be anywhere, and the most critical sectors with the lowly troops will not rout so fast.

Besides there is the added bonus to combat which, despite being a bit of a gray area, can be felt when fighting battles with different Generals and more or less the same troops. As the Romani, I know that having one of the well bred heavyweights with me can effectively force the Hastati to stay forever at the front, soaking casualties and tiring the enemy, therefore creating a plausible Romani legion tactical application.

WHy is it impossible in EB to actually get 10 stars?
Even my main Makedonian general that killed off the entire Seleukid Empire with just him and one army only has 5.

Nice to hear people are still, even now, getting something from that forum.
