This mod is a bit of a pet project of mine, still in the brainstorming stages, but if any interest develops I'll be happy to keep y'all updated on how the mod progresses.
The Concept
The O'Hea Pike and Shot mod will be an alternative-history mod set during the period 1520-1680, roughly between the Italian Wars and the War of the League of Augsburg. It will chronicle the shift from fuedal levies, to semi-professional mercenaries, to regimental organizations within kingdoms, and the increasing importance of gunpowder. It will also strike a balance between realism and gameplay, while offering a new and unique experience.
The Armies
At this point, there are 3 methods of recruitment available to factions:
1) Local troops, including town militias and fuedal levies (AOR recruitment)
2) Mercenaries recruited either in the field or from Guilds
3) Household troops serving the royal family, recruitable only from certain settlements and in small numbers
Local troops are the bottom tier of troops, but they are cost-effective and readily available. Mercenaries, who provided the bulk of Europe's reliable military manpower during this era, can be hired in the field as per Vanilla, as well as through a variety of Mercenary Company guilds that will establish themselves in settlements across the map. They're substantially more expensive than local troops, but offer better quality and more tactical flexibility. Household regiments are a step up, but they are expensive, have small recruitment pools, and have high building requirements.
