"Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We've golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair."
~ Australian national anthem
Two days remaining in the Tournament. There may be situations more tense than this, such as a nuclear standoff, but aside from that nothing really measures up. In the span of slightly over a week, these contestants face more pressure than most of us do in our entire lives. And they're still not done yet.
In the first match of the day, the heavy favorite, #1 pevergreen, battles Cinderella #7 Death is Yonder. Despite pever's seeming advantage, a lot of money has been placed on DiY, who is riding a hot streak and just accomplished a feat by knocking off #2 Andres and fellow semifinalist CountArach in subsequent days. It's noted that not even pever defeated Andres. Can the #1 seed hold on or be the next victim of the hottest player in the tournament?
In the other match, we have two cagey players, #5 CountArach and #6 Sigurd, facing off against each other. When they previously met on Day 5 of the Round Robin phase, Sigurd easily dispatched CA. Using this defeat as motivation, CA has been working extra-hard since then while Sigurd fell into somewhat of a tailspin before righting his ship yesterday against Beefy187. Now, the Count is looking for his final revenge and is aiming to deny his Norwegian foe entry into the finals.
With the crowd so loud that the contestants can't hear themselves think, the referee walks into the stadium, motions for quiet, acknowledges the contestants, and raises his hand into the air.
"Rock... paper... scissors... shoot!"
#1 pevergreen vs. #7 Death is Yonder
The bell tolls midnight for Cinderella in a simple fashion, as pever throws Rock and DiY throws Scissors. Just like that, it ends for the unlikeliest entrant into the semi-finals, who in postgame interviews expresses how he was playing with house money and that he enjoyed the ride immensely. "Hopefully I'll go on a run a bit earlier next year so I don't have to get stuck with juggernauts early on in the Knockout Round," he says with a slight grin on his face. Meanwhile, pever is not celebrating. For him, all of this was expected and he still has some business to take care of tomorrow.

#5 CountArach vs. #6 Sigurd
The two eye each other up for an extremely long time before they finally throw, with the referee almost ready to step in. Finally, it happens - and the Curse of the even-numbered days strikes Sigurd again. He grimaces as he sees his Rock come up short against CA's Paper. Afterwards, he expresses disgust with himself. "I just couldn't put together a good streak," he says. "Well, tomorrow at least will be an odd-numbered day; Day 3 of the Knockout Round. Maybe I'll take third." CA on the other hand is not present for his interview. However, there are numerous signs of him afterwards at a local party, celebrating his victory. The party is finally broken up by the police at 5:30 in the morning.
CountArach advances
The sun is finally setting on a spectacular tournament, with one more all-important day to go that will decide everything. Will Sigurd put together enough consistency to take third? Will Death is Yonder grab a consolation prize for his magical run that ended one day too soon? Will CountArach's sure-to-be-terrific hangover impede his performance at all? And will pevergreen put together one more day of amazing play to put a stamp on what has been an amazing tournament for him? All will be answered tomorrow.
