I find that whenever I get interested in a certain topic, I immediatly go to my best internet friend, "google". For example, I've recently taken an interest in Linothorax, and am considering making my own, so I go to Google and type in "How do you make Linothorax". Suddenly I'm reading 4 pages at once to find if they are bogus or not. I found a few sites in a matter of about a minute. As for books, try adrian Godsworthy. Also, try the EB bibliography page.

Also, if you interested in Spartans, there is a thread here that gives 4 good links to all things on Sparta.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi there,

The EB bibliography thread is here; all relevant information should be amalgamated in the first post. That should be a good place to start.

can you get wool as well?

EDIT: seriously-I can't for the life of me find it. If you know a source for it, can you give me contacts?

as for the linothorax: did you try www.larp.com? one of the sections deals with a hoplite reenactment by Mr.Amt-he talks about the Linothorax.

Dont want to post anything off topic, but since were talking about good reads, and making Linothorax, (some of us) here are a few websites that talk a bit about it. Still lots of controversy on how to make it.

Herodotus is preeminent on the Persian Wars, then read Xenophon's Anabasis and Kyropaedeia (education of Kuros the Great), Arrian on Alexander's wars, and late antiquity excellent reads on early Sassanid Persian military vs East Romans look into Ammianus Marcellinus, and for later Sassanids then read Procopius' histories of the wars. Ammianus and Procopios both have excellent extensive accounts of siege warfare, if you want to read something really ferocious read some of Ammianus Marcellinus' siege accounts between Romans and early Sassanids in the middle east/Syria-Palestine region. Tacitus also gives a fair amount of content on warfare between the Iulio-Claudian Roman imperial military vs. middle era Parthians.

thank you for replying to my thread as i and some of my colleagues may be starting either a western regional mod/submod based in classical antiquity or an east,south-east,south asian mod starting from 1300 to 1600.Strayed off-topic there but as my OP suggests we should stick to discussing good reads on history matters......

Everyone has been a great help
