I represent the Battlefields Trust. We are a UK based charity which aims to
- save battlefields from destruction by motorways, housing developments etc.
- provide a range of battlefield-related activities and information, including the quarterly journal 'Battlefield', battlefield walks and conferences
- liaise with local and national organisations to preserve battlefields for posterity
- improve the interpretation and presentation of battlefields
We also carry out research work. Our archeologist managed the project that found the location of the battle of Bosworth.
One of the challenges we face is to reproduce the historic landscape. Few battlefields look the same as they did. Perhaps Towton in the snow. Some of the locations are uncertain. The resource centre on our website has the best evidence we can find for the battlefields of Great Britian.
There are organisations that can model the historic terrain but these are too expensive for us to consider for the 500+ battles and sieges in England alone.
I would be very interested in seeing if we could use Medieval II Total War as the basis for building historic representations of medieval battlefields.
On 20 Feb we will be unveiling the location of Bosworth field. It would be interesting to see if it would be possible to build a historic battle for Total War based on the new interpretation. We have no expertise in building terrain or artwork, but would be keen to work with anyone interested in helping to bring alive the batlefiled heritage via the competer games.
Can anyone out there help?
