Artificial Human Brain.

What do you guys think of this?(BBC has some crazy cool news stories)

A detailed, functional artificial human brain can be built within the next 10 years, a leading scientist has claimed.

Henry Markram, director of the Blue Brain Project, has already simulated elements of a rat brain.

He told the TED Global conference in Oxford that a synthetic human brain would be of particular use finding treatments for mental illnesses.

Around two billion people are thought to suffer some kind of brain impairment, he said.

"It is not impossible to build a human brain and we can do it in 10 years," he said.

"And if we do succeed, we will send a hologram to TED to talk."

Eh, ten years ago the nut jobs said we'd be cloning people right and left by now. This is a marketing effort, sort of a fundraiser announcement. We are not within ten years of this goal, and we probably aren't within fifty years of it.

No promises. The AI rebellion isn't necessarily tied to artificial brains, I expect AI to be a self organizing phenonmena that occurs without intent from it's creators. If we create the potential, even unknowingly, the nature of conciousness implies that such potential cannot long remain unfulfilled.

In other words I believe if we string together enough neuron analogues, on any scale or for any purpose, intelligence is an inevitable result.

Hopefully we have the AI virus by that point. And cube, I think you're probably better off than most of us here for when the zombie apocalypse hits.

Which is why my Zombie Survival plan is of the Fortress variety. Ammo, Guns, Chainsaws, Davy Crockett nukes (ala MGS3) and more Molotov Cocktails than you can shake a flaming alchoholic stick at. All I have to do is sit back and let 'er rip 'till I run out of ammo, and go down in a flaming blaze of Nuclear zombie-pocalyptic glory.

AI Rebellion one is more tricky. I'm thinking I'll have to flee earth at that point in my hidden starship made out of 100% recycled Cowbell.

EMPs are much easier on earth though. Anyway, I think it'll be much longer than ten years before anything truly like a human brain can be made.
