Mine is the British, and Prussians. Both good factions to start as in game.

Turkey and Russia: both factions are hard (fun) to manage for quite some time until mid-game.
UP for naval battle fun.

Prussia and France.

If the AI diplomany functioned, I think Austria would be most fun.

Prusia and Marathas all the way man!

Marathas are hard to play as though. They usally will get destroyed by the stronger factions.

??? not hardly. The only factions capable of doing anything to them really is the Mughals and Mysore. after they've gotten rid of mysore, its basically a 50-year war, exterminating the melee-and-bow focused mughals. by that point, they are so large they cannot be beaten.

I still don't know whether to play the french or not! I'd wanna have the french revolution straight away! hehe Vive la revolution!

No! France is too easy. you can churn out an entire stack in 3 turns. I suggest Russia, Sweden, or Prussia.

I like to play as Prussia, and rarely play as anyone else, it is a good faction if you want to concentrate on land battles and fighting your neighbours.

sweden is nice because of being surrounded by enemies who attack quickly (like russia) and a slow developing economy.

Plus, If you play as England, the enemies have to cross to attack you, thus, buying you some time :yes;!

I was invaded by France on my 3rd turn as GB. At peace, next thing defending Edinburgh against French line infantry who landed in Glasgow and marched straight to Ed before I had time to say 'you utter b***ards' unprovoked unexpected loved it wish it could happen again!

GB is my favorite. They provide a definsible base of operations to work from and through their naval dominance, allow me to play all over the globe. I've tried to play Prussia a few times, but the high upkeep, long border, and suicidal AI nations surrounding me sucked all the fun out of it.

The Mughals routinely invade Ceylon (I'm neither Mughal nor UP) in my games. Also, whenever I play Prussia Sweden routinely launches amphibious assaults across the Baltic.

I haven't seen France invade the UK yet, but given that the Uk always has beefy land forces available I can see why.

I have not suffered a sea invasion as any of the factions I have played in 1.3.1 but I see several in each campaign.

GB seems to do the most. I have seen them land in Portugal to kick the Spanish out and support their ally and land in several other places. This time in about 1720 they have landed in Africa to take on the Barberry pirates.

I have seen the Dutch invade India twice in one game and then lose Ceylon to the Mughals in the end.

ive never seen a naval invasion in my campaigns but then again i might not be paying close enough attention.

however i pay enough attention to notice if one nation goes over-seas(like to england),and ive never seen it.

I don't think France is any easier than Sweden and not near so easy as Prussia.

Spain and Austria are the hardest of the western faction. Russia and Turkey are tough ones.

England seems to be down in the middle of the pack now so far as challenge goes. The Dutch may be the easiest now but it is rather a toss up with them or Prussia. Prussia, Poland, and the MC were easiest in 1.2 but they have made some changes and Prussia is now a little harder while the Dutch are a little easies. That is why I am undecided as to which is easiest. I have not played Poland since 1.3.1 came out so I won't say how they play now but if they got the same treatment as Prussia then they are not very hard.

prussia isnt that easy. you are surrounded by traitorous bastards. and no one wants to trade with you.

admittedly though, once you get big enough, you have some of the best units in the game and an unconquerable empire.

i tried spain once, it wasnt that bad, but all of the italian nations attacked my possessions there. that was a real bitch, and enough for me to just quit. i might start another one again.

Ah! But you already know that Poland will attack on turn 2 and Austria on turn 4 or 5. The only surprises are when Hanover and Courland will DoW on you.

Besides you can take Saxony anytime you please and if you are in a rush you can take Poland on turn 2 or three. It used to be you could take both on turn one but you lost a few troops after 1.2.

The challenge is to not get carried away by expanding too far.

really? i didnt have poland DoW on me til turn 10-ish, and austria never did. the only country that didn't DoW on me as a result of me DoWing on their ally, is sweden. and the marathas.

once i Dowed on Austria, a coalition of europeans attacked me: Bavaria, Westphalia, Saxony, and Courland. once i kicked their asses, the only nation with enough balls to attack me was France, and then Marathas.
