Well, the best way for the mafia to play the early rounds was as follows, in my opinion:

-D1:reveal one role partially in public to make contact, first. This Reenk did especially well, and he had infiltrated the townie network by the end of the first day.

-N1:kill one of the Four Swords with Dark Link. Reenk also did this.

-N2: Have each of the mafia kill one of the two remaining Four Swords. This way, neither of them could know what hit them.

At this point, the dead Four Swords might have been able to figure out that AVSM was an infiltrator, but whether or not they did, there would be only 8 players left, and the mafia would have 2 full kills per night.

The issue that happened was the roleblock on me by the four swords. We didn't know how to deal it with, we came up with many plans but none of them seemed to be good. Finally we picked what we did, hoping for the best...

Also, AVSM was traveling or busy through the whole game, so it was probably hard on him as well. Sorry for bothering you with all the PMs.

When we started, I didn't even know exactly who Shadow Link was, I said my cover role name in the thread to have him contact me but he still hadn't gotten to me by the first night.

I figured I'll just kill someone who wasn't Shadow Link, and split had my gut going as detective so I sent in an order. Obviously had I not changed this, the game might have turned out very differently...

A bit later AVSM contacted me and showed my the Four Sword quicktopic. I saw "Purple Link", "Apprentice the first", and "QJC". Gathering that Apprentice the first was john from Swords and d20's, I asked AVSM who Purple Link was, as he seemed to be the main organizer and I wanted to off him, but again, he couldn't get back to me in time, so I just picked QJC because his name was explicit.

So sorry for killing you early QJC. I didn't realize you had had a recent string of dying early and I wouldn't have killed you had I known.

At that point, the Four Swords quicktopic had nothing but the four members, so I was thinking might as well kill one now to make it easier to free Shadow Link. Obviously in retrospect split was a much better choice, but at that point, a gut feeling is overcome by actually seeing who is who.

I wanted White eyes dead just because in the second day. I didn't know who he was, however, by the end of the day, gibsons took the heat , which was fine with me, as I figured with all the Four Swords role fishing that everyone had a role. We saw that split and DJG were the two main problems for us at that time, so split was going to be the kill that night. All was going well, or was it.

AVSM told me sometime into the night that the Four Swords were going to roleblock me. Also, DJG was going to protect split. We were faced with a number of options:

    1) Have both of us kill split and DJG. This would expose AVSM pretty badly (and unknown to us, me also).
    2) Have AVSM roleblock me with the other Four Swords, and I simply not send my order in. I think this would have exposed me as no kill would occur.
    3) Have AVSM just not send in his order and have me kill DJG. At that point, it seemed like the best idea because I never knew the Four Swords would still get night result PMs. Also AVSM had already sent in his order and cc'd it, which obviously didn't look to good.

I tried a "mass roleclaim" not for the reason to fish out roles (at that point, all but atheotes and YLC were known to us), but to get the roleblock off my back by the Four Swords by making my role public. Unfortunately, they didn't stop it.

When Chaotix sent me my result PM, telling me that Red and Purple Link had actually seen me, and White eyes had come after me with his boomerang, I felt screwed. However, in the early going, I was able to ease both john's and White eyes suspicions and not have any votes on me despite getting caught with my pants down!

I was thinking we would get away with this close call with probably YLC getting lynched. Then at night both AVSM and I would kill the other two Four Swords to have them silent. With this plan, I would probably would have died soon after, and maybe AVSM would get suspicion on him later because he was the only one left, but it would have been better than what happened.

Chaotix had made the night phase extra long that night, so Yaropolk had enough time to come and stick with his suspicion on me. And you know the rest...

I think your best bet on N2 would've been to off me and QJC instead of split / djg. That would free up AVSM to kill as he wants. I ended up asking a few people to change their order via PM without posting the change to quicktopic since AVSM didn't show up for 2 orders in a row.

Btw you said White Eyes and John had caught you with your pants down - do you mean the failed block / boomerang attack prior to DJG kill?

Great game, great fun, thanks Chaotix.

I had a bit of a breakdown partway through the game, part of me hates the thought anyone would ever think me lucky enough to be mafia. So far in about 12 games I've been SK once, that's it.

    But still, woo town! :P

Thanks Chaotix, great game. I'm so glad AVSM was guilty, I would have felt awful lynching a team-mate if he hadn't been.
