    Default Ambush and Rotten Ambushers

Well, soory for this rather silly question, but the EB campaign game mechanism in ambush seems to be a complete inverse when compared to real life experience.

First, I got spent much time as Romani, and even developed taste to use ambush tactics rather effectively. Well, most of my favourite campaign tactics against anyone mostly invloves my roman general hiding in the woods with their legions, only to spring a good (and nearly always sucessful) ambush against incoming enemy stacks, and even they gain some good stars because of it.

The problem is, someone say that my gamestyle is better suited for barbarians, and suggest me to use this tactics with them, not against them. And i try a lusotann campaign. It seems well, except........

Most of my FM (excluding the starting faction Heir), ends up always failing in their ambush... WTF?!? Lusotann are supposed to used ambush soo much, but why my fms mostly ends up as rotten Ambushers? While most of Romans do that job better?

Oh yeah, to mention that with lusos' I always got more casualities on my side in ambush... even compared to my usual, hastati-princepes leves/velites ambush...

I can only say that good ambusher traits are aquired by germans, celts easier than romans.
like macedonians get more severe alcoholic traits.
but do not mess with traits any mistake can make the game very buggy..

Lol. I've never even heard of the ambush-trait. I never ambush myself, I rather prefer to march towards my objective and build forts.

makes me suggest you were just having plain bad luck. At least I don't see any reference to intelligency, culture or anything else besides what looks like a random trigger to me. Since bad ambushers don't seem to learn from their mistakes, perhaps you should appoint the poor ambushers some other task? Cleaning the closets comes to mind.

    kind regards,

Jus a quick question- When you move an army somewhere and they run out of MP, do they automatically hide and prepare for an ambush? if not, how do you make an army get ready to ambush?

I don't think they ambush when out of movement points. I think you need to have some movement points left and to be sitting in a forest in order to ambush.

Ah k, that would make sense. It's just confusing since they crouch down when out of movement points, similar to an ambush stance, yet otherwise they stand straight. I'll give ambushing a go today :)

I'm fairly positive that when a captain/general goes into an ambush stance, he will say, "Ready to ambush."

Well, my guess is Romaioi got a really defensible early position and several "stupid" enemies lead by captains (read: The Gauls, Aedui and sometimes Avernii). Placing general to sit down in alpen passage is a nice way to gain good ambush traits, because most Keltoi captains often pass the alps recklessly. On the other hand, Lusotann doesn't have initial enemies, and Kart-Hadast didn't cross anything "choke point" soo often.
