Well, Now we know that indstead of working on fixing the core game theyre off making an expansion that they will charge us another 20 bucks for... kind of like the unique units that they didnt finish on time and ended up charging us for

    What a joke

Fix MP before you decide to do an expansion for gods sake!

The Napoleon game will not be out until Feburary next year. Until then they are still working on Empire.

    Hi guys,

Just to confirm - we are going to continue supporting Empire: Total War with content and Update 1.4 is well in development.

    Thanks,

    Mark O'Connell
    (aka SenseiTW)
Hello everyone, today's update is about the upcoming 1.4 update.

The focus for the update has been AI, both campaign and battle along with improvements to sieges and the naval rebalancing. A lot of work has been put into the campaign and diplomacy AI, focusing on how it wages war, makes alliances and peace as well as use of naval invasions. Battle side improvements have been made to most areas of the AI with the focus on the siege AI which has had major changes made to it. Sieges have also had a lot of work done on them with a lot of bugs fixed, improvements made to pathfinding and how guns and troops on walls work.

Below is a list of some of the fixes that will be in 1.4:

    - Fix for auto unlimbering causing the attack order to terminate prematurely resulting in an inability to stop the unit from firing.
    - Fix for troops on fort walls not using fort gun range when judging when to fire on enemy troops.
    - Fix for fort guns using wrong targeting formula.
    - Fixes to fort pathfinding and use of ropes.
    - Multiplayer soft lock fixes.
    - Fix crash in quotes table.
    - Cumulative updates to improve AI invasion behaviour.
    - Bug fixes and improvements to AI counter offers.
    - Improvements to AI diplomatic valuation of military access and alliances.
    - Fix for wind sounds not working in naval battles
    - Fixed ship wakes not always working.
    - Fixed potential crash disembarking agents from navies.
    - Fixed armies not being booted out of regions when losing military access gained by joining an ally in war.
    - Improved AI diplomacy valuation of technologies.
    - Fixed reinforcements from unreachable positions.
    - Balance of power fix for attack of opportunity.
    - Fixed bug that was causing issues with embarking an army containing multiple characters.
    - Minor tweak to stop some ship sails endlessly play furling sound.
    - Fixed path blocked bug (pathing into ZoC).
    - Diplomacy counter-offer improvements.
    - Fix for fast forward not working as intended on some PCs. Will always speed up if camera is still, if camera moves fast forward will be as fast as possible on each PC.

So they say but it looks to me to be more like Kingdoms to Med 2, BI to Rome or VI to Med etc, just you wont need Empire to use it.

Tomisama - sorry but this announcement is ... joke.
Instead of correcting this game CA is trying to force us to pay again. Do you know how much it will be costing in Poland? First predictions are about 35 $. Even these sites who have pro CA policy call it "suicide". 90% of forum comments are something like "no way - I won't buy" or "no way ". I expect many 10-year-old children will buy this game - but no serious players.
Not for this price (especially when ETW was so ....).
Looks like this is end of my serie. Sad end.

Stop complaining. A lot of people will buy and enjoy the game, even if it's not up to STW or MTW standards.

There's no game like TW. Add to that the whole 'OmgNapoleonicFreak' factor, and you already know the game will be a success, even though harcore gamers and TW vets will complain.

OMG ETW is not a game at all.
Game should work - ETW is one big river of crashes.
Nowadays there is many games like ETW.
With bad working battles this has is just a common not great.

It would be nice to get a nod from CA, but I doubt it will happen if only for legal reasons. A spinoff of the Lordz Modding Collective is the Lordz Games Studio who are now developing commercial computer games. They/(we) were planning a Napoleonic strategy game however that's recently been announced that this project will be now be postponed. (http://forum.thelordzgamesstudio.com...ic=716.msg8476)

I find it a shame that the big boys (CA) seem to be stamping out new developers

don't think i've logged in in over three months geo... i could only do finland so many times. i'm aware that there are map packs out there, but it's more than that. to have less features online than a title from 2000 is really bordering on the ridiculous. steam also pisses me off, big wheel of bad marketing karma...

I don't even have ETW yet, but based on what I'm hearing, I don't exactly have any high expectations for Napoleon either.

I'll prolly sit tight and wait for the gold editions... well, that's assuming the accountants running Sega will actually sanction an updated release

    Eras and Engines

In a pm conversation today with Glyndwr, I started to explain what I believe to be the evolution of Total War gamming. I thought it might be of interest to examine that development as a means to understand the trials and tribulations we are forced to endure.

The simple version (I am very simple) breaks down to game engines, and the eras they were used in.

    It goes something like this:

Shogun and Mongol Invasion, Medieval and Viking Invasion, were all the same game engine.

Rome and Barbarian Invasion, Medieval II and Kingdoms shared the next revision engine.

Empire and Napoleon are the latest engine version.

Each engine’s development overlaps the previous, so that (for instance) when the 2D (sprite) Shogun WE/MI was coming out, another development team was already working on what would eventually become the 3D Rome Total War (though they hadn’t decided on that era yet).

This is why when we get the next engine revision game, there seems to be a break in basic understanding on the part of the development team. The recurring question is why didn’t they do this or that the same way as they did before?

The answer is that this is an entirely new game, from the ground up. It was made by different people on different computer systems, than the previous sets of game engine games.

By the time that Napoleon hits the shelves, I believe that this latest game will have been pretty much through its basic development stages, and will be the best of the best yet. And that somewhere another team will be starting to work on the next engine base, something we have not even dreamed of yet.

Keep the faith – good hunting!
The above reprint is derived from observance and not “inside” knowledge, but is still probably pretty close to the truth, at least in theory if not actual fact.
I posted it here because I felt it might help some to embrace the totality of the process, and perhaps be open to enjoy what there is to enjoy in each game’s development progression.

When Empire first came out I wasted no time in arranging Land and Naval Tournaments. These just finished, having supplied 80 Clan Teams, with some great fun! Some struggle and strife to be sure, but to give up the one because of the other seems a shame to me, and I wanted to try to encourage as many as would read this:

If you wait for “everything” to be perfect, you will miss “everything”. It is a process, that when complete, begins another process, that when complete…

P.S. New contests just starting, and already we have 28 Clans entering 46 Teams in the Land Contest that will be starting next weekend. The Naval one just opened this week

Some Poles tested ntw - they have mixed feelings. Multi seems to be just a bit better. They weren't able to check connections, crashes and similar but
balance isn't well. Art range still buggy, something wrong with cavarly.
