To combat this unrealistic trait, I usually give my tribunes (as Roma) or other generals/seconds in command little skirmishes, taking a couple of units out of the main army for a turn or two to take out single or so units of the enemy, before then rejoining the army as a whole. This sorts out the green issue, and is also more realistic and more fun.

The greatest warrior could make the worst general.

Indeed, the benefit of fighting in a lot of battles will be given in the form of chevrons, and there is also the possibility of gaining other useful traits.

    I'll try this, thx.

Yes a good warrior may not be a good general but even so the traits concerning bravery in combat seem slow in coming. Barring suicide charges is there an effective way to gain such traits?

Just wondering, is there a way to change which FM is the general if you have two or more in an army?

I think it's FL>FH>Whoever has the most stars (if there is still a tie you've got me beat)

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Just as the city is governed by the FM with the most management (not sure if FL/FH matter or not). If it is a tie, which has happened to me before plenty of times, it is then the first one who gets to the army/settlement.

So if you had a 4-star general lead an army for some time, and another 4-star FM joins, no change is made. But if that initial 4-star general leaves, the 4-star FM will take up the general's baton and even if the 4-star general comes back alter, the FM will remain the general. First come, first served to lead.
