Thread: Baktria starting provinces

    Default Baktria starting provinces

In the initial loading screen, and in the Baktrian AARs I have read I see them controlling three provinces at game start. When I load up a campaign game they only start with a single province, and AS controls the other two. When did this change? I am also recieving FMs with the Sogdiene (sp?) nationality, which would lead me to assume the game still thinksI start out controlling Antiochiea-Sogdiene, which I don't.

If I recall correctly, it was originally that way, too, and they changed it with .8x.

The reason behind bringing it down to just Baktra was that the Satrap of Baktria didn't actually have control over the two other provinces, but that the Satraps of those were only related to him, or something like that.

When Baktria rebelled, they took those provinces. That is why they used to be that way.
At the start of the game they haven't rebelled yet. That is why they don't have those provinces yet.

Baktria being present at all (as a political entity) in 272 b.c is very debatable right off the bat, so it was decided
that the A.S would have control of all the cities there except Baktra proper, to eventually simulate rebellion.

Also, it makes it easier for the player to survive, without the threat of Saka.

Exactly. At the beginning of a Baktrian campaign, these two provinces are more trouble than they are worth - underdeveloped settlements with high unrest and no stone walls, and to make things worse, bordering the Saka. As Baktria, you're better off with the AS fighting the Nomads over these provinces while you take some provinces to the East and South.

Although it is a bit weird that a load of your family members are Sogdian when Sogdiana tself is under Seleukid/Parthian/Saka tyranny. But I just RP them as refugees :D

I cant find any info about it but i was wondering how Baktria gain access to their indo-hellenic units. Is it just by conquering indian provinces?

Also how do i get my hands on Hetairoi Kataphraktoi.

Sorry for going abit off topic but better then creating new thread...

March of Time (vanilla Marian reforms - once the romani get a huge city in Italia besides Roma istself then you will get these as your new FM bodyguards.) Have fun using them, there more dagerous then there Saka or Pahlav counterparts

In my Baktrian campaign I ignored those two provinces for some time and conquered them only after Seleucids had been sending armies from them for a long time. That time they were nicely developed with stone walls, temples, markets, public order increasing buildings and regional baracks with possibility to train Subeshi archers But some time after getting them, Saka attacked me.

Indian units: for longbowmen, guild warriors and Taxilan Agema you need regional barracks, for Indohellenic peltastai, light and elite hoplites you need factional barracks, elephants are in both. I installed type 4 government firstly and than replaced it with type 1. Indian regional units are aviable in Taksashila (only province with Taxilan Agema), Opiana and Patala, Indian factional units except peltastai are aviable in Kophen and Alexandropolis too.

It's a very fun campaign. One of the first I played when I downloaded EB. I recommend it.

Baktria is a great campaign. A lovely mix of Greek, Indian, Steppe and Persian units, far away from the Seleukid supply lines, a mountain of gold in India...
