It isn't, Epeiros is Greek with Illyrian influences in the same way Makedonia has Tracian ones. In EB Epeiros controls some Illyrian land.
Sweboz, and wasn't there a tread exactly like this one?
Sweboz.. I love those units.
It seems a "Were Epirotes barbarians or not?" debate is coming...
athanaric 00:01 08-30-2009
Either we allow this poll to have a humorous edge by adding Epeiros or other mediterranean factions to it, or we should make it a serious poll with only the 6 factions in it that belong to the "Barbarian" culture group ingame. Those are:
Lusotannan, Getai, Swêboz, Arverni, Aedui, Casse. No others. Being "Barbarian" in this game does not refer to the brutality of the faction, which is pretty equally distributed between all 20 of them anyway.
Claiming Epeiros is not Barbarian while letting Romans pass as Barbarians is just

.

The thread had no poll.
Epeiros was originally scripted as a barbarian faction.
(Note:I said that Epeiros was
technicallya barbarian faction.
@J.R.M.: How could you guess?
@Kevin:No problem
@athanaric: he's right it was, for me, somewhat of a joke.

...uh, no. Epeiros has the Western Greek culture, ingame and had a Hellenic ruling class. Their soldiers were Hellenic, with some minor Illyrian influence. It's like saying that Kart-Hadast was Numidian just because of their position.
Please do away with the Romani and Epeiros options. Enough is enough already.
I voted Getai.

That's the first I hear of it. Although many Epirotes were Illyrians and Thracians rather than Hellenes, there were several major Hellenic cities and the culture of the ruling dynasty was Greek. So it isn't even "technically" a barbarian faction. At best, it's a Hellenic faction with a mostly barbarian population, in the same way that the Seleucid Empire is a Hellenic faction with a mostly Eastern population.

I would get rid of Epeiros if i could cuz of the amount of complaints. The romani are truly barbarians though, unlike us Gauls
@Hax and Ludens: sorry if i'm wrong, i heard it out there somewhere.

Well I guess technically the Romani are Celts with Heavy Greek influence but eh.
I voted for Casse, I love their units and their nice slow starting position, don't really like their lacking infrastructure though but it's usually not a big deal. I play them the most, late game they're a bit weird to play, as they don't have a "line" infantry unit to speak of, but they don't really need it, just tons of shock infantry and heavy cavalry with those nice Skirmishers and slingers to whittle them down. They also get one of the three Man-Tank units.
Hate their bodyguard unit though, too flimsy for a General.
I really like the Aedui too, but other than Casse I'd say Swezboz definitely, while they lack even more infrastructure their units are -amazing- and they still have an excellent starting position, maybe not as safe once the Romans start steamrolling but you still got a bit of leeway in the beginning They get access to +4 exp units under the right conditions, and that allows you to reliably take on both the Romans and the Boii supermen.

Agreed on the Sweboz, once you upgraded all shrines and things to the max you get very elite soldiers.
And the Romani are Latins, who were an Italian people. Later the Romani became a mix of the things they conquered with some noble Latin families in charge (Senate).

I would have voted Romani, but they aren't barbarian. Instead I voted for Casse, as they have good troops and money coming out of their ears. Only problem is that their bodyguard is too fragile for my liking.
I dont think the Casse bodyguards are really meant to be used for fighting...
EDIT:voted for Casse by the way

It just breaks my Ethos of "Badass and brave general everyone loves" when he can't even engage in combat.
I really like chariots, but they're best used as battering rams, and with their (I don't understand it, they have multiple hitpoints and a high defense) flimsy defenses, risking a General in it isn't worth it.
The Sweboz general is a perfect brawler, since he's infantry he's forced to stand and fight rather than retreat most of the time, and he does it well.
Unfortunately you can't use the +3 weapon glitch that the normal Haerthmen have, but -2 attack isn't too huge.
But yeah, Phalanx, those Sweboz improvements can get quite insane, +3 attack +1 defense +3/4 experience easily with the Hearthmen, and it's even easier with the Lugians, because they have some sort of Celtic monument there.
While they're expensive, the Thegns are suprisingly cost effective even as line infantry if you're going up to a very tough enemy simply because of these bonuses.
Which Sweboz temple gives the experience?

Temple of Deiwoz (Tyr). Level 3 (highest possible for Swêboz) gives +2 experience, some happiness and morale. The morale bonus is broken though, which unfortunately renders some other temples almost useless.
Together with a
Field of Games and type 3 or 4 government this adds up to +4 experience.
Woah that's pretty good. Does any other faction get something like that?

A few patches ago Pontus had a bugged +9001 exp bonus in one of their cities.
Shiiii-
Casse (used to?) have a Temple which grants +3 attack and +3 armor.
A (Rebel only?) Celtic temple can grant (4?) exp points upon building, something the Romans weren't prepared for once Aedui took liguria, and spammed overpowered Ligurian Spearmen.
Best AI Gaul expansion I've seen, wish my computer didn't crash and I had the screenie, they stretched from Numantia to the Swebotraustamnoz., from Massilia to Ak-Ink.
This happened to me in either 1.1 or 1.0.

Holy Shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sweboz wins again!
Aemilius Paulus 01:39 09-10-2009
You shouldn't really take that seriously BTW. We all know what AP did to Meth's votes

.
Aedui never win. What's so bad about them?
Andronikos 17:21 09-13-2009
There are two more Celtic factions which consume some votes.
Not anymore.

I voted Sweboz because Sweboz is the best.

First of all, that poll is currently a three-way tie. Secondly, define "best". :P

Sweboz FTW!!!
Phalanx300 19:09 09-16-2009
Seems like the Sweboz are leading, those damn Getai are catching up though. They should know their place.
