Default Requirements for games on the back of the box

Okay, today I had the inkling to buy Medieval 2: Kingdoms. It's either that or create my own mod. So, ambling into HMV to check out the price and requirements, I'm left stumped by the latter. Kingdoms, apparently, needs 9GB uncompressed hard drive space. Now, M2TW I also checked in-store, just to compare, and that said 7GB. Er...right, well, my copy here, at home, says 11GB! And I cannot honestly believe that an expansion would be larger than the main game, either. One final point - 7.54GB is how large M2TW, patched to 1.3, appears to be on the hard drive right now.

My question is, how large is Kingdoms? I am going to try to make space for it, but...is 9GB the hard truth? Might not be able to make room for it (so it'd be modding for me). I definitely cannot trust the blurb on the back of a games box at this rate, and won't even waste a penny on the gift voucher I have until I know I can safely make room (patching seems to cause me trouble too, it takes up more space than it should...).

I'd ask this in the M2TW main forum, but I figured it's more a hardware/software question than about the game itself, so apologies if this is the wrong place.
I believe in a society without rules, laws and regulations. A society where there are only ideas - strict ideas that must be followed to by the letter - and any failure to comply is punishable by death. This would be no dictatorship or police state, no one would be living in terror. It would merely be a 'reassessment of one's preferences,' people living in 'not-so-optimistic security.' So, welcome, those who are 'longing to be blindly obedient and loyal, unbeknownst to them.'

It needs that much room to do its mumbo jumbo install stuff.

It won't take that much up in the end, but it will during install.

Just like defrag. you can't do it if you don't have 15% free space.

Thanks for the reply. I use my brother's computer, my big bro (heh, I'm 23, he's 28! ), so I have to be careful. How much room does Kingdoms take up minus all that install malarky?

I couldn't tell you, I don't have it installed right now.

IIRC Both games together was like...8gb max?

Ah, thanks. Someone on another forum said 9GB together. Well, that's not so bad at all.
