    Exclamation Re: Do you Tweet?

Heck no! Even if I did embrace vile institutions such as Facebook and MySpace, I would still refrain from tweeting. The word limit is what kills me. I am an exceptionally verbose person, and usually anything I write is thrice the recommended length. I hate myself for not being able to summarise, and it is no surprise I loathe Twitter. Loathe, but not hate.

And yes, Fragony, I am in the same situation. Mobile phones are enough pain for me. And lastly, as several people already pointed out - no one cares (except some pervert paedophiles sitting in a basement, performing unmentionable acts in front of the computer screen...)

    Twitter is the new myspace.

    I hate myspace.

I do feel sorry for one of my friends. His uni course requires him to create and use a twitter account.

Another guy I know has his feeds going to his twitter, which tweets, then that sends it to his facebook.

I removed him and havent looked back.

Speaking about facebook, I got an immense amount of pleasure by culling about 170 people from my 'friends' list.

Three orgahs on there now. 3/50 isnt bad.

Funny you say that, Pevergreen; I just conducted a friend purge on Facebook. Too many people whose names I couldn't immediately relate to a memory. Gone!

I don't understand Twitter. Then again, I don't understand many successful, popular things, so that's not saying much.

I don't twit nor FB. And most of the time I don't even have my tracphone on because I really don't want to be available. Leave a message so I can ignore all y'all at my leisure.

This is one of the true ironies of my existence.

At 30, I am very much a child of the digital age. I grew up playing every major console starting from the Atari 2600 at 5, which was our first console. We still have it. I've had/bought every Sega and Nintendo console within a few months of it's release, all the way up to the Dreamcast and Wii.

At 8, I knew more about our computers than mom and dad. Our first was an Apple IIe that I didn't really think was that great. Our first home PC (dad had a few at work) was a 386 running Windows 2.0 and DOS 5.0. I taught myself how to use them both down to the very least, minute function from the 600 page manuals.

I grew up in that wonderful space of time where I still know and prefer to use a manual can opener, yet have the gumption and wherewithall to tear a PC down to individual parts to fix with complete confidence and nary a shred of fear. I still prefer analog clocks, but couldn't fathom not having a cellphone with me 24/7. Interesting contrasts.

What's my point in all this?

    I hate.

    HATE.

Twitter. Myspace. Facebook. All of these "social whoring" and "popularity contest" sites as I both think of and call them. If my loved ones and friends care enough to know what I'm up to, they call me on the phone to talk for a bit. "txting", "adds", and "tweets" are far too impersonal and not a bit self-important in my view. I'll SMS a friend if I'm bored or I have something to say that's not worth a phone call, but any worthwhile conversation is done voice or in person. Another aspect of this is probably my intense loathing for this rampant narcissism and selfishness in people these days. Everything is about me me me and who looks the best and is the most popular. To an extent we had those things when I was growing up, but it's not nearly as bad as it is now IMO.

Call me old fashioned, but that's my take. I may end up being forced into getting a myspace and/or facebook account for certain reasons down the road, but the other social sites like twitter I'm avoiding like the plague.

    Bah humbug!!!

    /rant over!
