Thread: A Cheat too far?

    Default A Cheat too far?

I know that there are some people here who use MedievalShell excessively or simply use cheats to enhance gameplay, but after going from RTW to M2TW the cheat capabilities seem to be out of control.

    RTW:

    • Increasing Denarii
    • Creating a single powerful, but buggy, Elephant unit.
    • Automatically winning a battle.
    • Giving Traits and Ancillaries.
    • Instantly destroying a none-nomad faction.
    • Instantly move a character to any location.
    • Process a construction queue. (All).

    M2TW:

    • Increasing Florins
    • Six powerful units; three of them Elephants.
    • Automatically winning a battle
    • Giving Traits and Ancillaries
    • Reseting a character's movement points
    • Instantly destroying a none-nomad faction.
    • Instantly move a character to any location.
    • Process a construction queue. (One at a time).

So, what do you think? Is the Shell overpowered in M2TW?

I sometimes use the money cheat to dive into action imidiately but that's about it. I occasionly put toggle_fow on to see where is a settlement that you can miss instantly (in Russia for example).

I don't see the point in creating those close to invincible units, it just ruins the game completely.

I don't tihnk most people use most of the cheats; I have tried the give ancillary and give trait cheat over 9,000 times. and i never get it to work. and to get the move thing to work you need to go through a bunch of weird stuff that i dont care to do.

honestly, I really just used process_cq and add_money because thats the way I play; I like being able to summon massive armies of uber troops, because I know that it will be a challenge with mods on VH/VH with the a.i. injecting money into itself like frickin meth.

E:TW I just self-mod the starting money so that I can start out with good cities and build more improvements. I managed to beat a whole game as the Marathas and ended up tkaing over about half of northern europe, so it's not like it's a hard game. I just prefer to have lots o money.

I honestly didn't know about these cheats and will continue not to use them.

toggle_fow is my bane. Not that I use it all the time, however it is mostly when I am finishing a session of gameplay for the night, I'll press press the ol' toggle_fow just to see whats going on with the other factions. I find it interesting what the ai gets up to or what it doesn't....

Also I have used the move_character cheat as a house rule to relocate those stuck ex-crusading armies that the AI all but abandons because it can not find its way back to its own territory once a crusade has finished. Suddenly once the AI has its army back in its territory, it usually sparks it into action.

Just because they are there it dose not mean you have to use them.

The only cheat I would use is the FOW, and then only in a defensive campaign to see how the others are developing.

in my current stainless steel campaign, I really don't use many cheats. just process_cq mostly, and toggle_fow so that my diplomat doesnt take 20 years getting from spain to denmark due to being stoped repeatedly.

but honestly, by the default M2 timeline, it takes over a hundred years to build only the 2 top-tier buildings in the city line. if it was maybe all building at once (ala E:TW) I could wait 15 turns. but it doesnt take hundreds of years to build a city.

I know about the cheats, but i have never been tempted to play around with them. When learning a new faction, I will toggle the FOW a bit, but I have never done so in a real game. I might be tempted to add some units if I were doing a guide or writing a story that is not strictly recounting an actual campaign, but I have not done so yet.

I know about them and I have overused them to the point where it became boring. I have restricted my to toggle_fow ever since.

You have missed out quite a few cheats though from them lists, not that I would know of course.
