A great game, released soon. What does everyone think of it?
I'm awaiting it with glee....however...
The OFLC (Office of Film and Literature Classification, i believe) handles all the classication (ratings) for games in australia. Games only go up to MA15+ so if the game is not suitable for a 15 year old, it is refused sale in Australia.
Left4Dead 2 has been refused sale as it stands now, for:
'high impact violence' against 'living humans infected with a rabies-like virus'
So we will get a toned down version, if at all...
Or we just import it.

Under the new firewall plans, any website that sells banned games is blacklisted and unable to be accesssed from australia.

Would they ban steam? Haha. Goodluck to them, that's a lot of irate people they'll have to deal with. People wont stand for the censorship, well the people that count (youth

) wont.

God invented TOR for a reason.
pevergreen 05:24 09-18-2009
Steam won't sell the game if it is banned on release.
Not if you appear as australian anyway. Pr0xy pr0xy?

Ban eBAY? No doubt it'll be available there.

If eBay is banned then I am not sure what to say - the new aus firewall plans sound awful.
Meneldil 10:37 09-18-2009
What the hell is that? Banning video games because they don't fit the australian rating standards. Terrible.
If I remeber correctly they did something similar with Manhunt, but people imported it independantly anyway.
pevergreen 13:14 09-18-2009
First one I was aware of was GTA 3. Was released, then pulled off for a few months until the toned it down. Whats the point! the game was released for one day!
Aren't you Aussies screwed over enough by delayed release dates?
I don't own L4D, and don't really know how it is distributed or updated. If game updates are via Steam, would those in Oz that smuggle the L4D2 hardcopy in be able to get patches?

Anything suggesting piracy is strictly against the org's rules.
The TOR references are allowed to remain as that program blocks torrent networks by default. One
assumes it is mentioned as a way of hiding your IP in order to access a legitimate game's shop and buy a copy.

Yeah, I use TOR to bypass school blocking and I heard it was developed originally to get past Egypt's firewall stuff, so Aussies have nothing to worry about if you use TOR.

Gotta love the way our Government's mind works...

To be fair, I'd like to reiterate that such a possibility would only be advised if he could not import it -in any way-. Being that he can, he is comitting a felony no less, albeit giving money to the developers for their work. But no harm done. My views on the matter are not for this part of the forum, so I'll digress.

Was classified today, a toned down version granted MA15+.
Does the rest of the world get the same version? Methinks likely.

This absolutely
astonishes me. Obviously this is not the place to discuss how to get around it, but I'm sure there are ways and I hope you find them.
Yup, no more need to work with proxies or TOR, the Ozzies have come to their senses. L4D2 for all and sundry!
I'm not that jazzed about it, but my boy lemur is addicted to L4D, so it's pre-ordered.
pevergreen 23:16 10-08-2009
You'll have to get him into a game with CR, Veho and Monk.
Watch them steamroll anything in their path.
Annoying when its me and MRD on the other team.
edit: and my ping is 200 above theirs
FactionHeir 23:19 10-08-2009
A few of my Age of Chivalry clanmates are into L4D and were thinking of buying a 4 pack in Europe for ~ 140 EUR. Told em I could just buy it for them in the UK for them for 80 GBP. They were qrather happy to say the least
pevergreen 23:35 10-08-2009
The fun is in the team.
I came across a group of kiwi's in game, started playing with them, and I've never had more fun.
Silly things like having 3 kiwi's do the beached az thing while pouncing in the air and saying "Catch me zoey!" and then making stupid om nom nom noises.
Everything is funnier with the accent.
Veho Nex 03:37 10-09-2009
lol. Too bad monk never joins us any more. So its me and CR when I get a chance to play. Not as often as it should be.
Ramses II CP 20:51 10-09-2009
I played a little last week. I still love the game, but all my time to game is &^%&*&% gone.
I think the L4D2 demo unlocks today, for those of us who pre-ordered the game on Steam.

Sometimes being poor stinks. *kicks the ground and puts his hands in his pockets*
CURSE YOU BROKE-TOBER!
Welly, Monk, there's only two routes to go if money's tight—pre-order to lock in the 10% discount, or wait a few months for a promotion. (The latter is how I got hooked up with L4D in the first place; they were having some sort of $10 weekend deal, so I bit.)
If it's any consolation, the demo is supposed to unlock to the general public in a week or so.
Ramses II CP 16:06 10-27-2009
So if I go pre-order now...
No reason why I haven't yet, just laziness.

It's not even that, it's just there's way too many releases coming. I can't buy them all!
