    Default Wow..

I've never seen this before (on rtw.exe):

I've seen the AI move 1-3 units around (especially KH, Carthage and Ptolemaioi), and in this game it's been a constant flow from Rhodos to Sparta. But a full-on, not-half-bad naval invasion and immediate (I saw them load up the boat, sail directly to their target, 1 turn siege, bam!) conquest of Krete...

Not bad if you ask me.

Note: I teleported the original KH army from Krete back to Sparta because it always ends up rotting over there, so that's definitely not how they grabbed Kydonia.

In my Baktrian campaign I have seen a 80 year old Arsakes the Elder and Pontos conquering Ambrakia in 250BCish

I edited the colours for AS and Ptolemaioi so they can be distinguished more easily on the minimap.

The new look of the fleet is due to the strat map mod, part of the 1.2 minimod pack (see EB Unofficial Modding Projects).

    And yes, it's rtw.exe.

AI naval invsions in rtw.exe, cool. I only have those rotten Ptolemaioi send over a bunch of levies and a FM to rodos once in a while(with BI.exe).
Even more than that astounds me the fact that you are allied with the KH

I have seen that on rtw.exe. But usually, KH army would just stand on Crete and doing nothing (few turns in ambush, few turns on the open ground).

And, yeah: i've never seen ships looking like that (with paddles): in my EB ships are quite different

The problem with sea invasion and so on is rather, that the ki is building ships so rarely, because most cities cant build ships and the Ki doesnt understand the concept of the military ports. Its an EB made problem if you ask me.
In my ongoing Vanilla campain the Greeks are sending a lot of fleets with troops around my flanks to atack my macedon capital. And have you ever thought about the scipii? How do you think they atack Carthago? Or how do the brutii atack rodos and so on.
The problem is not Vanilla its Eb.
And by the way... Im playing on Alex.exe and there is no improvement with naval invasions. That all a rumor started in this forum.

There are, however the AI tends to spend it's money on troops, not on ships.

Also, try BI.exe. In my games, Rhodes and Cyprus get invaded every now and then, Rome loves to invade Corsica and the Qarthadastim send armies there to take it back and land invasions in Campania and near Ostia. The most impressive naval invasion was by the Epeirotes though, who invaded with two three-quarters-stacks on the same turn (by two different navies which proceeded to blockade the ports of Taras and Rhegion), but being the AI, forgot to include a Pyrrhos-wannabe to lead those armies.

I just had an "wow-moment". I was playing on my on going Roman-campaign, when A HUGE Carthage stack appeared from the Alps. He was a tiny bit late, as the 3rd Punic War was about to start. It was pretty epic anyway.

Actuallly no. Vanilla is actually quite good. And the AI movement on the strat map is light years better than EB. I guess the map is to big confusing whatever, but the only thing the ai manages to do is atack over land once in a while.
Oh. And by the way. The ai in vanilla doesnt let there capitals unprotected like the ptollis or Carthagenians in EB.
But anyway units, roleplaying and historical feeling is much better in EB.

Vanilla isn't bad, it's just way worse than EB. Insta-routing armies, overpowered Romans, all historical inaccuracies... You could live with that, but why use good if you can have excellent?

Vanilla's ridiculously easy. Units are routed by glaring at them menacingly and even light cavalry can pull charges that'd put Polish Hussars to shame. The most efficient tactic is to charge enemy up front and chase the routers. In case of phalanxes, you might need to maneuver but victory is assured. Peasant archers can devastate units and elite archers are made up of Robinvs Hodvses who can destroy enemy units in a few volleys. There's no sense of realism, balance or challenge. Every unit wears brightly coloured uniforms. Eastern infantry wears pyjamas, Germanic armies' forte are heavy cavalry and armoured elite archers and "Egypt" fights with tactics a few millenia out of date (massed archery, levy infantry and chariots). Oftentimes infantry doesn't even get into contact with the enemy if you make the mistake of advancing with your cavalry and charging before your infantry engages the enemy. (Let's not even talk about diplomacy or AI in general)

    Easy, unrealistic, unhistorical, boring, bad.

    IMHO.

Edit: Gargh, digressing too much into OT. Sorreh, but it's just very annoying when a game is released that with a little (more) thought put into it could've been so much better...

It's my strong impression that the AI knows quite well how to build military ports, cause in my KH game they keep sending fleets of monster-ships to invade Rhodos and salamis, and to crush my at the moment patetic navy. BI.exe was a clear improvement fro RTW.exe in that matter.
