Argeades in 272 BC?

Hello!

Recently I discovered for myself, that during “classical period” 272 BC – 14 AD, there was no Argeades dynasty in Makedonia. That time there was Antigonid dynasty. But in EB we can see Alkyoneus Argeades, Krateros Argeades. In fact, with the death of Alexander IV (son of Megas Alexandros and Roxana of Bactria) in 309 BC the 400-year Argeades dynasty came to an end.

The next dynasty called the Antigonid dynasty, and it was found by Antigonus I Monophthalmus ("the One-eyed"). Who lived in 382 BC - 301 BC.

Just for the history accuracy.

I'm fairly sure the Antogonids were related to the Argeades by blood.

At any rate, they would've taken that name if they weren't, to legitimise themselves.

Just as IrishHitman said, the Antigonids would have adopted the Argeade name for legitimacy anyway.

I don't believe Antigonos Monopthalmos had any familial ties with the Argeade line.

Antogonids were not related to the Argeades by blood. Antigon the First was Alexander's general. They hadn't common relatives. He was a descendant of Elemeothida (not sure abot spelling) king.

Also all nearest relatives of Alexander was slaughtered by his generals to legitimate their own dynasties.

The fact that he was Alexander's general, satrap and governor by Alexander's will made his power legitimate.

Yet, rulers back then did invent family ties, from both divine and not so divine roots. The Mithridatids of Pontos claimed descent from Alexander and Cyrus the Greats for example. Heck, Alexander himself probably spread the rumour that he was descended from an earlier Egyptian Pharaoh when he was in Egypt. And I don't have a source, but I do remember reading that the Antigonids did use the Argeads dynasty name and probably invented a connection to the Argeads.

I think the Aiakides are distantly related to Alexander (Pyrrhos being second cousin) so that would make them more legit... maybe

This is a bit off topic, but wouldn't the "Argeads" be a more appropriate name for that faction than Macedon, especially seeing as how they often forced to evacuate the Hellenic mainland and become a Lesbian Kingdom? (Heh).
