Thread: AARs

    Default AARs

Hi guys, I have taken some time to browse the site and although it is largely a very good set-up I have noticed that AARs are very hard to find. At the moment there is no clear distinction between 'works of art' and 'AARs'. Works of Art containing general story telling and I presume the space for pictures aswell as words. This is in the Mead Hall of course.

What I think would work better would be a seperate sub fora (probably inside the Mead Hall) to speerate these two clear distinctions of game-related material and and non game-related material.

I am sure this must have come up at some point or another, what are your views?

I have also just noticed that there is no direct link from the Parliament to the current AAR place holder.

Have a look for the Throne Room. It is the home of AARs.

Not anymore, it's been the Mead Hall for some months now.

The rarely-visited mead hall, that is. I think EB's area for AARs actually gets more views than the mead hall itself.

Quite promising that AARs have proven to be elusive for quite some time now then.

There are an extremely large number of AARs in the Mead Hall. You can find an index to all of them in this thread, under #4.

Not all of them, I am afraid. The Library hasn't been updated since July 2007.

Indeed, mainly the few times I've tried the format has been terribly borked in transition. I haven't tried since the last time that happened earlier this year.

    Ahh. Mr Mead Hall himself!

So what do you think? A seperate area for the AARs? The general feedback does seem to be that of pure confusion and a general agreement of the fact that it is a broken and disjointed setup.

I have to agree, a separate sub-forum for AARs, with the word "AAR" in the title will do much good to find existing ones and might most likely reinvigorate the scene and prompt member-fans of all TW games to add theirs.

As it stands right now, AARs are indeed a bit hard to find for non-regular members.

As shameful as it is to admit, you have me to thank for that. The original plan was to scoop everything together and then rework and edit the library to be the de facto pathfinder, unfortunately due to several failed attempts at updating it I got terribly frustrated with it and nearly swore off it altogether. For any inconvenience i've caused the regulars of the Mead Hall and those who love AARs I apologize sincerely. I had no idea the confusion had gotten to such a level. My PM box is always open and i'm more than willing to adress issues, but I have to know there's an issue first.

The initial problem we were seeing is that AARs in the TR were getting buried due to the many many PBM and succession games (all of which you should take a peak at, those things are pretty cool!) which led to the merger of interests in the Mead Hall. Unfortunately it looks like the merger has created a new problem - no one can find what they are looking for!

I don't want to dump things back in the Throne room because we'd simply be trading one problem for another, but I do like the idea of a sub-forum for and within the Mead Hall dedicated specifically to AAR works. It would provide clear distinction between the AARs and the other more "artsy" stuff while still keeping things in the same spot (in relative terms, that is). Maybe even take a page from paradox forums and (as gollum suggests) throw AAR right in the title. I'm partial to the AARchives, but then I love puns almost as much as Gregoshi.

I'm open to any thoughts, commentary and suggestions on this.

    Hello Monk,

hope you are doing fine. I dont think that the current system is bad or anything, just that it is not very clear for someone that hasn't been to the org much where to find AARs immediately. Even the description of the Mead Hall makes no mention of AARs being housed - just of fan fiction.

Also, although intermixing fan-fiction and AARs provides a continuous whole for people who want to read fiction, i am sure that AARs have a distrinct audience with its own needs. At least that's how i see it being in other forums (TW and not). For that audience it may be a disadvantage that one must scroll through the pages to find AARs, as they are intermixed with fan-fiction.

A subforum for AARs would definitely work. I didn't like subforums in the Throne Room back when we were all subforums of that 'Miscellaneous' group, because you can't see sub-sub forums from the main index. Since we were split into our own forums, I've found the TR subforums to be extremely convenient and easy to use, since they're listed right in the main index. I suspect you'd feel the same way about an AAR subforum.
