The fact that he was Alexander's general, satrap and governor by Alexander's will made his power legitimate.

Yet, rulers back then did invent family ties, from both divine and not so divine roots. The Mithridatids of Pontos claimed descent from Alexander and Cyrus the Greats for example. Heck, Alexander himself probably spread the rumour that he was descended from an earlier Egyptian Pharaoh when he was in Egypt. And I don't have a source, but I do remember reading that the Antigonids did use the Argeads dynasty name and probably invented a connection to the Argeads.

I think the Aiakides are distantly related to Alexander (Pyrrhos being second cousin) so that would make them more legit... maybe

This is a bit off topic, but wouldn't the "Argeads" be a more appropriate name for that faction than Macedon, especially seeing as how they often forced to evacuate the Hellenic mainland and become a Lesbian Kingdom? (Heh).
