Yes. He was defeated by the Seljuks and was preparing to leave, but instead opted to stay with us and plays as Ghazni. This won't take effect, however, until the next turn...

If he wants to stay, then he should stay with the Abbasid, They aren't even dead yet??, So wtf

I'm sorry, but you he can't just allow him to jump ship abandoning a kingdom when the 'going gets tough' and play a kingdom that's not in hot water.

Fine, I know he probably is near death, or suffering... to the point where all hope is lost. Then he SHOULD STAY with his kingdom until he is annihilated and put up a good fight and if he wants to switch afterwords to another kingdom when he is officially DEAD. Then I have no problem with this, but I do have a problem with him switching out of a kingdom when he is not dead to play another one in the same campaign.. I think it sets a dangerous precedent.

Don't you?, does anyone else have a problem with this?

Have fun killing me off, just please take my other towns quick, since I've been having trouble getting into this game from the start (once I realized that I picked about the worst faction a hotseat noob could pick-besides Sindh). I don't like to quit or weasel out on commitments though, so your killing me off is a way to end it gracefully. Go for the castle and Basra, skip Hillah since the
Hillah since there's no general there, and you'll kill all my FMs. Well played man (I was kinda hoping that some noob would get the seljuks so I had half a chance, but oh well).

Sounds to me like hes just folding and giving his land to the Seljuks.

Honestly, it seems to me more like Merlinus was trying to save face with that comment. Merlinus hired me as a mercenary and we've been involved in the planning of that since almost the start of the game. During that time, I never got the impression that he was wanting to abandon his faction as soon as possible (in fact, the turn he was destroyed, he was preparing to attack Merlox).

The seat for the Ghaznavids has been open this whole time. I've never stopped advertising the game on TWC or the .Org (as Magic Man coming over here from TWC can obviously testament to). At any point, someone could have entered and taken the seat. Had Magic Man opted to play as the Ghaznavids, instead, I don't think this issue would have even come up...

... so, no, I don't think there is anything unfair when a player who would otherwise opt to leave the game, chooses stay and play another faction instead.

I'm not wild about this either - particularly with the advice given to Merlox on how to take down his faction quicker...I'm sure it's unintentional, but it doesn't seem fair to the other players that Merlox gets an advantage like that.

This is finals week. It's been very stressful. I'm already tired and pissed off. I have two tests tomorrow and I don't have the time to deal with this right now. We'll work it out tomorrow...
