The nation-state is a bourgeois construction. Marx does say that the workers are without a nation (Can't be bothered to find the exact quote at my fingertips). As such the destruction of the Capitalist Superstructure necessitates the destruction of the very concept of a nation-state.

I have never read Das Kapital (Though I fully intend to once I can find a print version). I have, however, read quite a few of the more obscure writings of Marx, at least in part.

EDIT: Though I do believe we have strayed somewhat from the original question... my mistake.

    Mistake? Rubbish.

About time we hijacked US politics threads to talk about Marx and the coming revolution.

I demand the addition to this poll of the option 'Socialist Worker's Party of the US' !!

    indy.

(Gotta use a lower-case "i", to distinguish from The Independent Party). Or for the californiated-impaired: DTS (Decline To State).

Like roughly half of the eligible voting population of the US. And the ones who decide elections the past 20 or so years.

In my 40 year voting career, I've voted Dem, Repub, Peace & Freedom, Libertarian, Reform, Green, Natural Law. And maybe the Raccoon Rights Party, if I remember correctly. It's the individual guy, ya see. I try to asses his/her conscience. Then expect/hope that he/she follows it through his/her term.

I have been disappointed; sometimes by my fellow electors, and sometimes by my picks. Sometimes both (Bush's second election springs to mind).
Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.
