PC Gamer UK - ETW Multiplayer beta coming very soon

Just got the latest PC Gamer mag in the UK ( for December 2009 ! ) it says that the FREE multiplayer beta for ETW is coming very soon!

Will be 1 Vs 1 to begin with, but this will be expanded when the code is stable...

good to hear. They had better hurry up with the patches for 1v1 multiplayer

I would say the last 6 months or so has been a decent amount of time for 'coding patches'....

I hope it's not restricted to 1v1 though. I want co-op. The campaign that the Devs were talking about back when the Daily Update thread was still going was a co-op campaign, the 2 devs vs the AI.

I'm tired of playing 'alone' as it were. If the AI was any good at being a real friend/ally, I might not want co-op so badly, but since the AI is a crappy friend/ally, I want a human to actually team up with and coordinate our domination.

Of course it will be free, this has been stated so many many many times, it was said first off the bat it would be free, it was MEANT to be in the release version. But it wasn't so they will be releasing it now.

I don't really think its that funny, it makes sense, theyve NEVER done multiplayer this way before, it makes sense to get 2 computers talking together before you go and try for 10 computers talking together, its something we eternally complain to CA about the fact they never take baby steps when trying to do something, at least they are now and good on them for doing this the sensible way.

With the 1Vs1 thing, As far as I'm aware you both play on the whole campaign map anyway so the AI's would be there anyway, so its up to you and your friend if you play together, for all you know, he could be just playing along waiting till the right time to strike at you....

It's not restricted to player-vs-player, it's just player-does-whatever-he-feels-like-and-another-player-does-whatever-they-feel-like.

Point is, you could have coop, you could have rivalry, you could have neutral-ism-ness

The only thing is, that very soon means nothing.

It is pretty subjective as to what soon or very soon means.

Like now NTW is out in less than 4 months.

To me that is pretty soon and likely much too soon to get the Multiplayer Campaign all ironed out so they need to get it out very soon if it is going to be something other than a big mess.

They should have had it out yesterday.

I thought we were cranky they didn't do enough testing of ETW, and you want it now??

I don't know about the beta but the thing proper was meant to be out just before the release of NTW thats how I read it, I don't mind waiting if it means there won't be multicampaign stopping bugs. I could care less when the multiplayer campaign comes out as long as it does, Dragon Age Origins comes out soon, I won't have time to play ETW :P

I am not in a rush.

They are just short of time if it is going into NTW.

We knew prerelease that a multiplayer beta was being developed and would be released.

They have talked about it for months but it seems to be stuck in the closed beta.

I was more talking about how long is SOON.
