Thread: Monitor Woes

    Default Monitor Woes

Well I finally replaced my old CRT monitor with an LCD a few weeks back. Everything has been good so far, though there has been one, somewhat major, drawback - I can no longer play STW. Well I can, but only in ugly stretched widescreen mode. I have tried a few things, including every setting in the monitor but cannot disable the screen stretching. Is there any other way to make STW display in a 1024*768 box in the center of the screen at the LCD's native res (I think it's 1440*900) or am I simply out of luck?

-Edit: Hmmm, this just might work: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=2347688

The NVidia drivers have an option to keep the aspect ratio, I'd expect ATI drivers to offer that as well, I'd have a closer look at the driver menu. My monitor can do it, too, but if yours can't, I guess that won't help you.
    What LCD did you get?

I don't have that option because my monitor is not connected through the DVI port. This crap monitor does not have one. I'm glad now that I didn't pay much for it (well in fact I didn't pay for it at all).

I will try the other method that I linked to, that's probably my best hope.

-Edit: It works. In fact I'm running STW v1.0 and it works faster and better than SWT 2.01. There is no hang on shutdown either.

For those interested the command line is: "C:\Shogun - Total War\Shogun.exe" D

-Edit2: Patched to v1.12 and still ok.

*sigh* the option was in there all the time... but not easy to find. There was a "display ratio" option in the menu that only appears when you're displaying something that is non-native (i.e. a game running in 1024*768 resolution). I found that and changed option from "fullscreen" to "native" and that fixed it.
