Yeah, Archers are just broken in EB. They suck, using them is boring and takes time and the AI simply uses them without any effect. Maybe making them so weak wasnt a good idea

They are quite strong when you're playing against other humans. The AI just sucks.

Nope. Archers are just fine in EB. I'd even venture to say that Kretans are broken the other way, because of their mysteriously high range. And I've played more than one Saba campaign (at least two), though I haven't finished any of them yet (due to new patches/computer crash/...). Still I managed to dominate the Ptolies (as in: leave them with two desert provinces) and successfully push back the AS at the same time.Originally Posted by seienchin

If you don't believe me, play Lusotannan, Casse, or Swêboz and visit some faction that prefers archers, like Pahlava. Good luck
As a side note, if you want 2hp-AP-HideAnywhere-SuperRange-Thermonuclear Archers of Doom for a change, you can download and play FATW (a very good mod) and click on faction "Elves".

Actually the heavy duelling archer types can seriously break the game if oyu play MP.

Archers are quite fun and effective if used right.

Damn it I am a EB veteran and I also played a pahvlan camapin all the way to egypt. But jesus the AI use of archers is just broken beyond believe.
The heavy duel type archers are really strong in multiplayer, but the Ai cant use them.
Anyway I also still refuse to think its possible to get 100 Arrows in your unprotected back and only 8 of 120 phalangitai die.
But anyway, for the Multiplayer Archers are good, for the single player:
The heaviest battles I had were against enemies not using archers at all. Seleuks with 6 units of cataphraktoi, 8 phalangitai and the rest thorakitai and the babylonian spearman is just way harder to beat, than an enemy with 6 phalangitai, 4 horse archers, 2 cataphraktoi and the rest a mix of archers and spearmen.
Oh by the way constructive thinking:
Reduce the range dramaticly and rise the deadliness.

I found the archer spearmen to be rather good. I hope you don't minder archers that much as archery will probably play a bigger role in EBII's sabaean armies.Yeah, Archers are just broken in EB.
