    Default Capitalism II

Does anyone have any experience with this game? I noticed in the special deals thread that its on sale for ten bucks, and there's a fair number of positive reviews for the game. It seems like it would be up my alley, as a grand strategy/domination kind of game that slakes my lust for power, but I've been disappointed by games before. So, I guess, anyone got any advice or reviews on it?

Well, IIRC the demo is a good image of the game, with less capabilities obviously. I like a lot that kind of games, and Capitalism is a good one, but it's up to you to make up your mind with the demo.

There was a problem when capitalism moved to the plus version, as the screen shots used for the world that you run your businesses in was difficult to follow and find your businesses. I think Capitalism II is the same as one (I have one). It's a great game that is used in some MBA programs to demonstrate marketing and price setting strategies as well as illustrating how important shipping costs can be. You should be okay, and at ten doallars, it's not a big gamble.

I played it. Ages ago. Either Cap Plus or Cap II, don't remember.

I loved it! The AI isn't all that good, and one inevitably gets the hang of it sooner or later. But even so, I've spend many a sleepless night plotting global financial, manufacturing and retail domination.

Expect dated graphics, interface and 1990's 'sophistication'. But if this is your genre, do check it out!

There was a newer version, which I quite liked but which didn't really add to the game.

Edit: I just wiki'ed it. I played Cap Plus when I was young. Played it to death I should say. Cap II is the 'newer' version from 2001. Newer graphics and interface, but mostly the same mechanics.

It is a 'mature' business sim. Still more a game than an accurate simulation, but splendidly more mature than all those mostly rather silly 'Tycoon' games of today.

Hmmm....I should check that big box of old games of mine, and dig it up. Now I feel like setting up a business empire. I always used to beat my dad with it. He went for producing glamour products like automobiles and computers, never quite understanding how my modest empire based on agriculture monopolies would always overcome him. Good times.

A game all about paying people as cheap as possible, while you sell the products for as expensive as possible, so you can live a life in sickening luxery while others suffer at your expense.

On the plus side, it would be more enjoyable than playing Stalin's Planned Economy. Risk of being sent to the gulags if you fail to meet impossible targets while getting paid in water and bread.
