Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.

This is Matiuj and I will be assisting you in troubleshooting the issue. I understand from your email that you are facing issues with Medieval and Shogun total war games.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused however, In order to troubleshoot the issue you are facing, I would need additional information. Could you please let me know the following details?

    1. What are the different display drivers you have tried to troubleshoot the issue?
    2. If possible please drove us the screenshots to duplicate the issue?
    3. When did you start experiencing this problem with your NVIDIA based card? Was it working before?
    4. Have you install the latest patches for the game you are trying to play?

I look forward to your reply in order to help you better.

    Best regards,
    Matiuj

Seems like a typical first line support response... I doubt he actually has a clue...

    Hello Alex,

Your case is being escalated to our Level 2 Tech Support group. The Level 2 agents will review the case notes. As this process may take some time we ask that you be patient and a Level 2 tech will contact you as soon they can to help resolve your issue.

Nope, he hasn't so he passes the issue on. Seems like a typical fob off to be honest. You will probably get generic advice at best - if you even get any response. Of course I may be wrong, but going by Nvidia's past reputation, I'll be surprised if you get any real help.

I think Nvidia's official line on this problem in the past has been that it's CA/SEGA's problem.

And CA/SEGA have not made any official responses to this issue as far as I'm aware. I seem to remember CA responding to someone in the past informing them that it was a problem with their hardware/drivers (i.e. Nvidia's problem)...

In reality though this is CA/SEGA's problem. It is CA/SEGA that should be releasing a patch for this and it is CA/SEGA that introduced these flaws into the game from the start.

    Good luck

Dunno, but I remember last year using e-mailing them for support regarding an issue with RTW: BI, and I received a clearly custom, professional response. It did not fully help me, but the 1.6 patch somehow entirely fixed the problem, which was created by my heavy modding of the game . Of course, I did not mention to the tech support that I modified their program :P.

But this is 2009, not 2008, and this is MTW, not RTW, so....

So do we all,but don't let them off with "Your case is being escalated to our Level 2 Tech Support group" reponse, keep on their backs,so to speak,if they don't repond promptly. Also I don't know if this would work but if everyone could mail them about the same thing, maybe we could get their attention so to speak,as this should have been fixed long ago.

I hope you get a positive response; this is a longstanding issue.

In the meantime (at least for me) ATI looks like a winner :)

But it still sucks for those of us that have Nvidia cards, but Ca don't seem to believe to "dedicated tech support" as they've been ignoring our complaints for at least a year so far.

All I can say is well if more people mail them about this issue, maybe we will finally see some results.

keep us informed , though the lvl2 support probably means it is going into the abyss with the rest of them , +1 for the ATI , which will be the next card i would purchase.

Honestly I think this issue is CA's and not Nvidia's.

Let's think of all the issues we have with STW and MTW on newer hardware:

    1) Inability to direct Units in battle. Applies to STW/MTW (Nvidia)

    2) Campaign map CTDs. Applies to MTW (ATI/Nvidia/Intel etc (mostly ATI?))

    3) "Debugger detected" or similar. Applies to STW/MTW (not usually related to graphics card - caused by Safedisc/Securom and is triggered by a codec)

    4) Throne Room crash. Applies to STW (not usually related to graphics card - caused by a codec issue)

    5) Severe campaign map lag. Applies to MTW (?)

    6) Hang when exiting program, forcing kill of process through taskman. Applies to STW and MTW (I had this problem with STW/MI 1.02 (latest version) but not STW 1.12 (original STW). Also had this problem with MTW and certain graphics cards/drivers.

    7) Flickering menu. Applies to STW (ATI/Nvidia/Intel etc)

    8) Slow loading screen. Applies to MTW (Nvidia/ATI)

    9) Sound crashing and stuttering issues. Applies to STW, caused by codecs etc.

Many of these issues are inconsistent. A lot of players obviously don't have any problems, which is why I don't think they're pure issues of graphics card/driver incompatibility. The button fix is a good example of this. It is strange that these two files cause an issue and replacing them solves it.

Both the STW and MTW game engines are basically the same thing. There are no actual graphical enhancements to the MTW engine over the STW one on the campaign map. Strangely enough though the MTW engine has more issues with the campaign map than the STW version. This does indicate that it's the additional bling that was added to MTW (portraits and other icons) that is causing the issue. IMHO it's general bugginess in a game that has had bits tacked on to it with no thought as to how it would function on newer hardware platforms.
