My only speculation is that it might be able to stop a downward falx stroke, but my own speculation is not enough to convince me.

The jist of that thread was this:

Some Thracian helmets had a piece along the top for the crest to mount to/because it was constructed in halves and there are some with the phygian pointy thing.

The helmet just imitates an old (Leather or felt?) hat design the Phrygians wore.

phrygian cap would of held (and still does) some kind of significant/esoteric meaning as it is still used today in symbolism that is often related to the occult.

anyway make what you want of it.

there is a lot of art from Revolutionary America that incorporates the phrygian cap as well. its also in American coinage from the period

I once saw some old footage of WWI in a history class and there was a French honor guard like guy wearing a Phrygian Helmet in AD1914. I actually laughed out loud right there in the class.

Thracian looks cool imo, but I too thought Phrygian looks ridiculous until I saw the movie Alexander which overlooking its faults actually makes the Phrygian style look good. I can see why people might like the helmet.

The shape is a symbol of freedom in that part of the world. You need to read the old Smurf thead.
