Default What is the normal rate of after battle CTD's?

After say, every 8th battle, I generally get a CTD. I always wait until the after battle music stops playing to press the button, and never had a recurring CTD that I couldn't get past by playing the battle again.

Still, with 1.2 and all the fixes installed, I was curious as to the rate of CTD's other people experience. Is my experience normal? Could I have possibly increased this rate by modifying the EDU or EDB text?

Any modifaction increases the chacnce of recieving CTD's, so be careful with that.

You should restart RTW itself after atleast 2 hours due to the ingame mem-leak.

PLaying with ALX.exe I do recieve a after battle CTD a maximum of 1 in 100 times.

I get 1 after-battle ctd every 3 to 4 hours or so. Well maybe that's not necessarily correct. It could be entirely depend on how many batles I fight or how many units. It doesn't seem to happen when playing custom battles though. At least I haven't experienced it.

Yeah a custom battle should never give an after battle CTD, I'm sure it has to do with how the battles change the campaign map/character traits/ect...

I'd say after about 20+ battles although sometimes its lower and sometimes higher.

My experience has been that the frequency is rather low at the beginning of the game. The deeper you get into the game, the higher the frequency. I have a game in the 180s right now, and if I don't save and exit every 4 battles or so, I'm likely to get a post-battle crash.

You can get around this by frequently saving, exiting, and restarting. It's a pain, but it helps you avoid the problem. In that game in the 180s I mentioned earlier, I've had very few crashes.

In my experience (and lastest no cheat AS campaign), each time we auto_win, add_money, or process_cq.... there was increased CTD rate... but believe me, in that campaign, I only used toggle_fow, and doing everything from stratch..... and I have no CTD even in 132 BC.

Another campaign, I usually used auto_win on naval battles, and CTD usually happened in every 10 or 11 battles.....

I once passed 6 hours with Alex with full of my mods and minimod pack.
but stopping for a smoking break once for 2 hours became my habit that saved my campaigns but I do not think it is same with my lungs
so restarting after 2.5 hours or 4 battles rule, saves me at the moment.

P.S. As I make lots of micromanaging in battles it takes huge time to finish one because of the deploying hit and run tactics of nomad armies.

Fraps killed my 2 campaigns, so if you do not write an AAR do not use any screen capturing programs.

It seems memory leak caused CTDs can be reduced by setting the "can use >2GByte" flag in the used exe (RTW, BI or ALX), providing you actually have more than 2GByte RAM and set the "/3GB" switch of XP. In my personal experience a 64Bit OS (XP pro x64, Vista64 and Win7 x64) with flag-altered >2GB support seems more stable since WoW64 (=Windows on Windows 64 = 32 Bit emulation) seems to provide more memory before running out of it and therefore CTDing.

Until sometime ago there was a thread with suggestions on how reduce the number of after battle CTDs (waiting at summary screen etc), which also contained instructions on how to set the >2GB flag.

On Vista x64 (with 8GB RAM) with the ">2GB" flag set, I can't remember getting a CTD even after up to 8 hours playtime (no autocalcs with battles).

I also say that bovi's advice may work. Do not use miles sound system. I could not notice much difference but since I changed it. I have never gotten a CTD after batle screen.

I didn't see a difference in quality (regarding Miles sound), so I turned it off, but I still get CTD's at seemingly the same rate. I don't think it is a memory issue, I have 4 gigs of ram.

Again none of them are game-killing, I replay the battle and it is done, but it just gets dull having to replay the battles, especially if I forget to save less than twice a year and have to play more than one battle over again.

Oddly enough, the farther I get into the game, the less CTD's are affecting the game...
