RTR VII: Fate of Empires - FOE v1.4
~ Download Mirrors and Installation Guide ~

Download Links
FOE 1.1 is now available from the following:

FOE v1.1 - DepositFiles
FOE v1.1 - MegaUpload
FOE v1.1 - Atomic Gamer
FOE v1.1 - ModDB

The FOE v1.4 Patch is available from the following:

FOE v1.4 Patch (installer) - Deposit Files
FOE v1.4 Patch (rar version) - Deposit Files

The rar version of the Patch is identical in content to the installer version. It is included because there have been some issues when trying to use the installer version of the patch. Therefore, if you have a problem with the first link (in that it refuses to install), simply use the second (rar version) download link instead.

The 1.4 Patch is not fully savegame compatible so, once you have installed the patch, you are advised to delete the map.rwm file (using the facility provided in the launcher) and start a new campaign.

Foe v1.4 Patch - Change Log

  • all of the FOE v1.2 and v1.3 patches (so is compatible with any playable combination of FOE 1 that may currently be in use)
  • revised and simplified Custom Battle rosters
  • Roman Marian Legionary Cohort and 1st Cohort available in Custom Battles
  • many unit statistical tweaks
  • many gameplay setting refinements

Please note that the mirrors above are hosted by commercial companies that offer a two-tier level of service. Their free service will normally make you wait before you begin the download (anything from one to eight minutes!), and the download rate is typically 35 KB/s, giving a download time of between five and six hours. However, at least it is free. However, if you are prepared to pay for their premium service (from 5 to 20 US Dollars for one to two months) things are potentially a lot faster, as download managers and download acceleration is usually supported. We are by no means recommending one service over another, as the choice has to be yours. Only you can decide whether or not it is worth your while to pay for something you may only ever use once.

Are you able and willing to host a mirror of FOE 1.1? If so, please let me know and forward a link that I can add to the above list. You will have the teams thanks, and that of the RTR community, as well as your name credited alongside your link.

Installation Instructions

  1. Install Rome Total War.
  2. Install Barbarian Invasion expansion.
  3. Install the BI v1.6 Patch.
  4. Download and install FOE v1.1 to the Rome - Total War directory.
  5. Download and install the FOE v1.4 Patch to the same Rome - Total War directory as in step 4
  6. When asked, you should chose "overwrite all" or "yes to all"

FOE is mod-foldered and will not interfere with any original game files or any other correctly designed and installed mod-foldered RTW modification.

Hey, awesome!
I didn't realise RTR was here on the .org, looks like a recent arrival? Welcome!

TWC seems to be down :(
From everyone hanging out waiting for FOE?

Anyway, I've been playing RTR since 2.something or 3.something, been lurking TWC since then specifically because RTR was there & am really looking forward to FOE

Kind of a delicious irony that the RTR founder Gaius Julius (I think that was his name?) left his creation to start Punic:Total War before he disappeared & now we have the main RTR team releasing a mod covering essentially the same period/area

Carthaginians are totally my favourite & I loved what was done with them in TIC, am really looking forward to having more freedom with them & yet the restraint of the build tree emphasising Carthage itself looks like its going to add a fascinating dimension to their game-play

PS: you should update www.rometotalrealism.org too.
I was going to be watching for update there until I spotted this RTR section on .org

Unfortunately, I don't have access to update our web site and the only way I can get through to the person who does, is via TWC. Bit of a Catch 22 situation really!

Tony, here's the AtomicGamer link.

I guess the anticipation over the release of FOE brought TWC down lol

For the record, I got it off the free MegaUpload at ~3Mbit (350KB/s) average which is impressive for my 3.5Mbit synch rate & being on the other side of the Pacific.

Albeit I was almost certainly the only person downloading at the time & it was about 1am (1am-7am = offpeak = plenty of international bandwidth) so results may vary.

TWC has not been very stable for the past few days. Yesterday was the worst it has been for a while though.

RTR VII: Fate of Empires - FOE 1.1
- Download Mirrors and Installation Guide -

Since we released FOE 1.0 yesterday it has become apparent that a bug causing intermittent CTD's has somewhere found it's way into the late build of what became FOE 1.0. At the moment we do not know what is causing this problem, however, it is our highest priority at the moment and all the Development teams coding resources are being used to track it down and fix it. In the meantime we are upgrading to FOE 1.1!

FOE 1.1 is actually what we were going to release, before some last minute changes were introduced into the build that eventually became FOE 1.0. So, in effect, we are rolling back the clock to a slightly earlier and, we hope, a more stable version of FOE, and we are renaming it FOE 1.1 to avoid confusion between the two. There is not a big difference between thm, from the players point of view, and the only thing you should notice, with FOE 1.1, is that the Roman and Epeirote factions do not have any background music.

So, if you are having great problems with repetitive and unpredictable CTD's, you can use these new links to download FOE 1.1, which should provide you with a more stable playing experience. If, on the other hand, you are lucky and do not find that the CTD issue is a problem, then you are probably better off sticking with the FOE 1.0 that you already have. The choice is yours.

We are sorry any inconvenience that may have been caused but, once we have established the cause and fixed the CTD problem, we will be issuing another update update.

Download Links

FOE 1.1 is now available from the following:

FOE 1.1 - DepositFfiles
FOE 1.1 - MegaUpload
FOE 1.1 - Atomic Gamer

Please note that the links in the original post have been updated as well.

It will only let me save and load games when I play as Carthage...is that normal?

Reply
-Finn- 21:45 12-29-2009
No, you should be able to load and save using every faction.

However, if you are loading a save while you are already in game, the background script needs top be disabled first. This can be done by pressing ESC, then ?, and you should get a message saying the script is disabled.

The script can also be disable by exiting to the desktop.

I've uploaded the 1.3 patch to Atomic gamer. You can find the link in the OP.

When I figure out how to upload a file to directly to the ORG, I'll add the patch here as well.
