It would be a matter of replacing models, re-coding scripts and a big fuss over something inconsequential. I fail to see how killing can be okay for someone as long as it looks pretty.
Ah; OK. A technical explenation is what I was looking for.

It's not a matter of killing being "OK," it's that I can't play if I'm nauseated.

Legal reason for Nazi's being unplayable is German law, thus it would never be shipped to Germany, for the rest fo the world, it would be the press having a field day.

However, playing a bloodthristy Russian is perfectly acceptable.

Following not playing, not that I would have any problem playing the germans. Don't mind the often truly excessive violence in WaW personally either, kinda have a problem with the real images though though these are real people really dying

I have trouble playing the super-evil guy in RPGs. I just get these pangs of emotion and experience mild depression afterwards.

I'd have no problem with a German campaign in a shooter though. Let us play the Naziest Nazi Murderer of all time for all I care, as long as the story is passable and the mechanics are good (I could see "Play as the bad guys!" being used as a gimmick to distract from bland and uninspired gameplay).

I love being evil in games... wholesale slaughter is great (although I will alter my behaviour based on punishments and rewards) I do get the occasional feeling of guilt though, although im generally good to my team (AI dies to easily, I must save them!)

In real life I don't even kill insects (unless they are being really annoying)

This. I felt uncomfortable acting like a real in Fallout 3.

I generally play good characters, because I find the game to be more difficult on a moral level; I would REALLY like to kill this person, but maybe I can persuade them to think otherwise. Failing that, I don't feel to bad if they attack me. Dragon Age I have to confess, has put me in some binds though, and it's hard not feeling prejudiced against entire races or classes.
